Anyone's DC a bad sleeper while on vacation?
We've been away with DD overnight 4 times now. The first time was when she was 4 months and she was fine - adjusted to the pack and play, slept next to my bed, no problems.
Now, she's almost 10 months old and very aware of her surroundings. She's used to sleeping in her crib. We are away now staying in a hotel room with her and she is a train wreck. Doesn't want to fall asleep although she is yawning, rubbing her eyes and draping herself on me. Once she is down she screams her bloody head off and wakes up frequently during the night (this is a baby who sleeps 630-630 no problem normally).
Is there anything I can do to help her? We are going away in a few weeks for a week long vacation and I am dreading the nights! She's great during the day, but bedtime is a disaster!
TIA

Are you sleeping in the same room? I could never with my kids. They would never go to sleep. We've resorted to having a seperate room and letting them CIO for 20 mins. Most of the time they fall asleep before that and the last time they slept at SIL's they didn't cry at all. I know this is harder if you are in a hotel...

For a long time, DS was a TERRIBLE sleeper while on vacation! It got to the point where we would just have him sleep in his stroller because that was the only place he would sleep! After he turned about 2 (maybe younger), we went away and rented a full size crib. Turns out, he didn't like sleeping in a pack n play! We rented the crib a few times and now he is in a bed so no more issues there

Yes, and I know this is the main part of the problem. Last night she didn't go to sleep until 8 (and screamed for 10 minutes) whereas she normally sleeps by 630. She was up today at 5 And now she doesn't want to nap because she is overtired.
I love going away but totally hate this!
She is in her pack and play - maybe next vacation I will get a crib.

I feel you
We're away right now (at my parent's place upstate) and we were up from 1am - 4:30am and then he woke for the day at 6 The night before was pretty much the same. My parents headed back home to L.I. yesterday so we're going to try moving his PNP into their room tonight & hope it will be better. I'll let you know how it goes...I can't do this another 5 nights

I feel your pain! I'm upstate also and currently hiding from my DD while my MIL attempts to get her to nap. Little do they know I'll be napping soon too!

I hear you! It's so tough having to sleep in the same room as them while on vacations. DS actually sleeps ok in the PNP, but he makes so much noise during the night. He moans or cries out throughout the night. He's asleep, meanwhile it keeps me up! I don't know what else to do. I can't pay for a whole other hotel room just for a 1 year old!

Re: Anyone's DC a bad sleeper while on vacation?
Yes DD # 1 would never ever sleep in a hotel if she was in the same room as us. We have to always get 2 seperate rooms. We are going away with both DD's at the end of August and we are staying with family. My older one should be okay but I'm so nervous about the baby. She is a bad sleeper as it is and we're going to CA - I cannot imagine what we're going to do with the time zone difference!

Re: Anyone's DC a bad sleeper while on vacation?
Oh yea...DD absolutely HATED the pack and play...we'd go away and I'd put her in it (always late bc it would take me forEVER to get her to sleep) and she'd wake up 5-10 times a night, early in the morning, and be miserable!!!
I finally realized that she did SO much better if I put her in the bed with us....Thankfully she'd go back to her own crib when we got home....
I think the pack and play was too low to the ground for her, and just kind of freaked her out a bit!
