Anyone's DC not take to pacifers?
My DS (2mths old) does not like pacifers...I find it weird. I thought all babies like pacifiers. In a way Im glad because then I wont have to fight him to eventually take it away but I just find it odd. Anyones DC not like pacifiers at first but then started to like them?

Definitely not all babies like pacifiers. I think for some of them it is too unnatural. My first was never into it, though my second definitely is. None of my 4 sisters and brothers nor I took them.

Re: Anyone's DC not take to pacifers?
My oldest didn't take a pacifier but was ADDICTED to bottles. That was how she would soothe herself was hving a bottle until she was 18m. It was 3 days of hell breaking her of that habit. My youngest loves her pacifier!!! Shes 15m and although she's really starting to just have it for nap/bed time but I know it's gonna suck having to break her of this habit when the time comes. And she could do without a bottle. She only really takes one at night before bed (barely lately)

Anyone's DC not take to pacifers?
I tried three different kinds with DS and then gave up. (Soothie, nuk and mam) He never took to them. He did however start to bite on the white cloth diaper burp cloths at about 5-6 months, and at 20 months still does when he's tired or upset. I figure him biting on them isn't as bad as trying to break a pacifier habit.

Re: Anyone's DC not take to pacifers?
Yep, DD didn't like them at first. But I only tried one type. It never occured to me to try different types. At 7 months when she was teething badly we found a Nuk binky and she took right to it. So if you think it might be beneficial and haven't yet, try a few different types. Or just don't look back and be glad you won't have to wean him off it.

Re: Anyone's DC not take to pacifers?
my younger one would never ever keep them in. she'd pop them right out. i'm glad b/c i never worried about taking it away and she was very good at self soothing. my older one only kinda cared about them until 6m. when she turned them around to teeth on them, i took them away cold turkey and gave her teethers. She didn't care one bit.

Re: Anyone's DC not take to pacifers?
DD doesn't. I didn't offer them much in the beginning. When I have tried them, she either chokes or spits them out and gets mad about the whole situation! She's been big on sucking on her fist and is starting to be able to get a few fingers in and keep them there at 2 months. I'm guessing she'll either stick to her fingers or eventually find her thumb some day. It's nice that she can soothe herself anytime and I don't have to constantly worry about where a pacifier is or how to get it to her int he car.

Re: Anyone's DC not take to pacifers?
My DD never liked them. Even as an older child, she never tried to suck her thumb and never much seemed to need to suck for comfort.

DS never took to the paci. I offered it all the time after he was born and he just wanted no part of it.

Re: Anyone's DC not take to pacifers?
My DS hated pacifiers from day one and I tried so hard! Looking back at it now, I'm kinda glad that he didn't like them... one less thing to wean him from.

Re: Anyone's DC not take to pacifers?
DD wouldnt take a paci (or bottle for a long time either for that matter! ) which was rough bc she couldn't self soothe, but started sucking her thumb the day she turned 3 months and life has changed. i may regret it later when we try to break the habit, but for now i prefer it.

Same for us. I was glad he never liked them - one habit I didn't have to worry about breaking.

Re: Anyone's DC not take to pacifers?
Consider yourself lucky that DS is not taking the pacifier. My oldest DD would not give it up. She started nursery school still on the pacifier. She's now 15 and needs braces.

Re: Anyone's DC not take to pacifers?
DD never liked pacifiers...she only took them for a few weeks then kept spitting them out. its definitely a good thing your DS doesnt like them...my DS did and at 1 i had to cut the pacifer and it was a rough few days.

Re: Anyone's DC not take to pacifers?
DD never took to them. She'd suck for a few minutes and spit it out--like she realized there was no milk coming out. I tried to get her to take one, bought all different kinds, but now I'm so glad she didn't. It's one less habit I have to break.

Re: Anyone's DC not take to pacifers?
YES, ds is not into the paci. DD loved it and it was fight to get her to give it up...she had it until she was a little over 2. DS couldn't be bothered. he does like to suck his thumb when he's tired or hungry though.
