Anyone's infant have seasonal allergies?
If so are they on meds???
DD's nose has been a mess the past few days...just took her to the ped and everything is clear, he thinks it's allergies, my DH had awful ones as a child...she's been congested since the day she was born!!! It got better over the summer, but now flared up in full force for the past few days...He gave me Xzyal to give her, but said don't give it to her if I don't need to...so don't know what to do..he knows I'm not comfortable with giving her meds that she doesn't "really" need...
I just never heard of such a young infant (9mos) having seasonal allergies???

Re: Anyone's infant have seasonal allergies?
I was told by my sons allergist that seasonal allergies do not start until after age 2.
Its probably a cold at 9 months

Re: Anyone's infant have seasonal allergies?
My DD has been on Nasonex nasal spray to treat allergies since she was 9 months old. She has an environmental allergy to cat dander. Seasonal allergies also fall into the "environmental" category, so it is entirely possible for young babies to have them.
The reason he put her on the nasal spray is because she also has some food allergies. According to him: a child with food allergies who also has environmental allergies that aren't treated are more likely to develop more serious reactions to food (asthma, anaphylaxis). Did that make sense, LOL?
Rather than deal with a pediatrician, I went straight to an allergist who diagnosed my DD's allergies.

I was told the same thing. It can be allergies at 9 months, but it's rare not the norm.

Re: Anyone's infant have seasonal allergies?
My DH had awful awful allergies at a young age, and everything is clear, her lungs, throat etc...and her nose fluidsd are clear too just constant...so that's why he thinks its allergies, esp with the strong family background... who knows I'm going to try the medicine out and see if it does anything at all...

Re: Anyone's infant have seasonal allergies?
My DD has seasonal allergies - I was told NO that she didn't the first year - but it is now 2 years straight the exact same months (she had a clear thin runny nose ONLY when she left the house - if she stayed home it wouldn't run at all) - never had a fever, no cough etc - and it lasted 4 months (march-june) then our ped finally admitted that it was seasonal allergies. It is rare BUT they can have it!

Re: Anyone's infant have seasonal allergies?
eh, i dunno i would go straight to a pediatric allergist..i personally think "allergies" unless other symptoms are present such as food ones, arent really diagnosed properly in infants under 2.

THAT IS EXACTLY HOW DD IS!!!!! The clear runny nose stated acting up in March-May and then stopped and just started again now!!!! He did say it's rare but DH had an AWFUL case when he was younger had to go get shots every month or so, so he said it could very well be....

I have horrible allergies -I have had them since I was a baby- I sound still like a barking seal on and off all year. It is just allergies - but sometimes the allergies turn into bronchitis or sinusitis so you do have to watch them. The doctors couldn't figure out why every year I got bad bronchitis for valentines day until they tested me when I was 4 and realized I'm allergic to evergreens and they pollenate then.
I just watch her and make sure she doesn't get a fever, it doesn't turn into a cough and it doesn't thicken or turn green. I try to keep her inside as much as I can though when it starts up. Finally the ped this year told me I can give her a little children's claritin or zyrtec. I haven't needed it yet - but my allergies are starting so I know hers will be too.

I haven't given her meds yet although i have them. Just a warning DD gets spasmodic croup from her allergies so don't panic if it happens.
