anyones toddler NOT want to watch TV

So my DS is 2.5 and not a big TV person. He watches blues clues when he gets up and drinks his milk and then dora, or diego or backyardigans before he goes to bed. He love singing/music, so their are nights he doesnt watch any TV and asks to sit on our bed with us and listen to his music CD's and sing songs. This we love doing and really consider it our "family" quality time.

I know so many moms would be thrilled with their child not watching TV during the day, but their are times I need some time to myself to do things. I also am fine if he wanted to watch a little TV, esp since its not like he glued to it 24 hours a day. He's at the age where he's always asking us to sit and play with him (which we do gladly) or if I am doing things (laundry, dishes, etc) he either stays in the living room and plays there or follows me with his toys so he can play wherever I am. He loves music, so when videos come on on noggin he will watch that, as well as parts of shows during the day like olivia, jacks big music show, max and ruby, etc. but then he goes back to playing or shuts the TV off. His newest thing the past couple weeks is he wont even LET me put it on during the day. The minute I reach for the remote, he tells me, "no TV Mommy, shut it off please".

I am going to have a new baby in feb and I am wondering how am I going to have time with the newborn (if I am not be able to put on a movie or a show once in a while). I am wondering if he's feeling needy or wanting our individual attention more with the new baby coming? Thanks for listening Chat Icon

DS is 21 mos - doesn't really watch tv except for at bedtime/nap time (sometimes).
He's like a little dog - climbs up on the couch, fusses w/ blankets, cups, pillows, turns around, fusses some more watches for about 3 minutes then he is out.
Anyway - back to you...
It sounds like your son is pretty self-sufficient and you don't need the tv as a baby sitter.
He also sounds like a good helper.
Maybe if new baby watches tv, he will too? Maybe you can say, Toddler, Mommy has to go to the bathroom, can you please watch new baby?

I would be concerned about not watching tv if he couldn't focus for a period of time or maybe that he wasn't learning from tv - does he go to school? does he "read" books? It sounds like he learns from music a lot

I always thought if/when I had #2, I'd get #1 a baby play set so #1 could play along while I was tending to #2...I think www.boscovs.com has something like that realitivly inexpensive.

Does you DS not watch a lot of TV b/c hes not a real TV kid, or do you guys not put it on during the day?

Thank you for your responseChat Icon He is self sufficient, so i def will be using him as a helper when the baby comes. He has good attention and focus, so I am not concerned with him not being able to sit still and watch. He will sit and play, read a book, do a puzzle, etc. but their are days he seems so needy and up my tush! It would be nice to put a show on a half an hour, ya know. He does go to daycare 2 days and does great there and also goes to my SIL one day a week. I forgot to mention hes a real outdoors kid, LOVES being outside and my SIL has a big backyard so they are outside most of the day. That's his big thing besides music. I guess what it comes down to is, he rather be playing then watching TV. We did get him a play kitchen for the holidays, i figure something to keep him busy that's educational and fun.
