Are/did you freeze meals before baby arrives/d?

Are you planning to freeze meals before baby comes? If so, how far in advance are you planning to start? What are you planning to make? I need some ideas!

Thanks!

I am not doing this. I am relying on my mom to come over with dinner and my DH to run out an get dinner.

I'd like to say that I will, but I think I'll depend on my mom instead. She'll be staying with us until she finds a house here in NC, so I figure I'll just milk it for all it's worth Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have 2 big containers of sauce frozen and a meatloaf but other than that I don't foresee my doing anything else. Take out, my mom bringing food over, and sandwiches sounds good to me!! Chat Icon

Re: Are/did you freeze meals before baby arrives/d?

DH does all of the cooking so I should be able to take care of DC while he cooks. I think it's a good idea to freeze meals if you can though.

Re: Are/did you freeze meals before baby arrives/d?

Yeah I got motivated a few weeks ago and went crazy! I froze:

Pot Roast
Baked Ziti casserole
Meatballs
Chicken Cordon Bleu

I had a few other ideas, but so far this is all and I don't forsee myself doing too much more Chat Icon I have a few meals of each- I froze them in small, 2 person servings so we should last for awhile if we mix it in with takeout!!

I would do it if you can.

Speaking as a new mommy whose delivery did not go as planned (emergency c-section). I can honestly say I am in no condition to stand on my feet and cook. We do not have additional help here at the moment. Fortunately, our friends and family have been providing meals for us until we are able to get to a supermarket.

I wasn't planning on it, but I saw my friend do it and she said it was very helpful, so maybe I'll do a weeks worth. I'm so lazy....lol

Re: Are/did you freeze meals before baby arrives/d?

I made a few things and froze them (I love to cook, this wasn't a horrible chore for me), and my mom brought over a bunch of stuff to put in my freezer. It was soooo nice, we pulled stuff out of the freezer a few times a week, and relied on takeout or sandwiches or whatever the other nights. I had a c-section, so for the first two weeks, this was pretty much a necessity.

Actually, I cook and freeze regularly. I pull homemade stuff out of my freezer at least once or twice a week. Once there is a kid in the house, you'll be surprised how many nights cooking is just out of the question!!!

I want to but I just don't seem to like frozen foods reheated. If anyone has any that they've done and still taste good let me know.

I'll do some sauce for sure.
I also like the Bertolli bag dinner for two. Tasty and easy so I'll have some of those on hand.
I may make some breakfast burritos so I have a protein filled breakfast handy.

Re: Are/did you freeze meals before baby arrives/d?

i really plan to do this!!! i think it is a great idea b/c i know i am not going to be in the mood to cook.

i am happy in a way that i am due in dec so that i can keep the oven on and cook "stick to your ribs" hearty meals like beef stew, lasagna, chili, etc

i'll be researching like crazy for meals ideas to freeze around that time..

Re: Are/did you freeze meals before baby arrives/d?

Yep we did about 3 weeks before my scheudled c-section, which ended up being 2 days before I actually deliveredChat Icon

We made Lasagne
Chicken over rice with ginger dressing
Beef Stew
baked Ziti
pork chops

I think there was more but I can't remember. I think I remember making lentils & rice for something too....

Re: Are/did you freeze meals before baby arrives/d?

Nah - I'm not a huge fan of anything frozen w/ the excpetion of sauce and meatballs .........So I'll ask my Mom to do that for me and I'll just have to boil some pasta .........other than that, I guess we'll figure it out as we go along.

Re: Are/did you freeze meals before baby arrives/d?

DH made a few dishes of ziti and froze them. What a help it was those first couple of weeks. Even with people bringing food...it was still nice to have. I definitely recommend it if you can find the time/energy to do it.
