One of my friends told me that the Christmas before she got married, one of the uncles pulled her FH aside and said, "enjoy this Christmas, once your married, the gifts all go downhill...."

I don't mind them; they're usually something for our apt. Which in DH's mind means it's really more for me than him, cause I care more about that stuff. But that's ok.

i don't mind as long as it's not all i get... my family is good with doing some of each. the couple gift is usually for the house which i tend to appreciate more than dh anyway

Are you talking Christmas gifts? If so, we don't get gifts from anyone except our own parents. They don't do couple gifts, but if anyone got us a couple gift, I would like that! I like the board game idea or things for the house - like a martini glass set or something like that would be nice.

Yes, Christmas, but I guess other holiday gifts too. I celebrate Christmas, so I am not sure if people get couple gifts for Hanukkah or not. 
I voted no, but as I am thinking about it, we have gotten a few good couple Christmas gifts. And I have to admit, in many cases, it is much easier to shop for a couple gift if one of the people is really tough to buy for.

i don't mind it--the holidays can be a time when people are just barely scraping by to buy just a lil something for everyone, that many times a "couple gift" is a little easier on the wallet. i'd rather get a couple gift than nothing at all....and i appreciate the fact that someone just buys for us at all.

I like having the "big" gift be the couple gift because chances are it's something I need/want that I would not buy myself or could not afford, but I like having my own gifts also. I say no to ALL the gifts as couple and yes to the big gift and some smaller household gifts, but still having our own to open. Just because we're married doesn't mean we want the same things

I selected other b/c there are just some people who cannot give a good gift (sorry but its true) to the point were they REALLY shouldn't have. For these people I wouldn't mind getting a couple gift b/c that usually means something for the house or gc for dinner or something useful, just not for me.
I probably sound completely ungrateful I swear I'm not though!!

yes because what we get is usually geared more towards me than DH (something house or baby-related)
but we don't get too many couple gifts, our families are big fans of the individual gift.

from immediate family and friends I would be sad lol (but I am always grateful)...but from others just spreading the love/joy, I think it's an awesome way to do so without breaking the bank.

I prefer it.
No one really knows me well enough to get me something personal that I would enjoy & use except my mom, but she always buys me clothes that are too small.
My DH & I are even buying ourselves a couple git this year!

For giving, I have esp with the fact that this couple has 4 kids that I have to buy for.
