I have heard this from people a couple of times and it makes NO sense to me so I'm wondering if it is the truth or a rumor... Does anyone know??

This is not true. I used to work for the Long Island Convention & Visitors Bureau and we used to get asked this A LOT. We called the DOT and they said unborn children do not count.

Babies and children are people, so yes.

I wasnt sure if it was an age qualification, like out of car seat or had to be old enough for front seat. Thanks!

What if you are hearing voices and you are responding to them or what if you have MPD? What about then?

I don't understand how this is OK. Isn't the point of the HOV lane to take cars off the road? Infants and children can not drive.

ITA. HOV lane is for 2 or more people " commuting to work", saving the road and environment from an extra vehicle. Whether you can "get away" with it or not, we all understand the concept of what the HOV lane is truly for (to encourage car pooling amongst commuting, working adults). I am surprised they would not clarify this law to possibly include 2 adults who are of legal driving age as a requirement, b/c this is the TRUE intention of the lane. I don't think it's cool to use it just b/c you can get away with it, JMO.

I think they should too. But in the meantime, I'll take advantage if I need it.

Half the time the HOV lane has some old fart driving in it who thinks its for them to drive so slow and look around. I hate when you get in it and that lane is moving slower than the other lanes b/c of those people who think its for scenic reason.

So then on weekends (Saturday/Sunday) it's considered an additional lane? Anyone can drive!?!?!?
how exciting!!! (if it's true)

Yes but you cant switch in and out of that lane, you still have to follow the white line to the off ramp part. but yes you can use on weekends.. its the fast lane.
