I was allowed 3 people. That said, my SIL had the same rule, and wound up having a grand total of 7 people at one point (5 stayed for pushing).
Right after the birth, my best buds from grad school came to my labor room to see me- so I had 5 in the room at that point.

It probably depends on the hospital's policy. Winthrop only allowed 2 people in the room.

During labor as long as i'm up for it whoever wants to be there. When it's time to push just my boyfriend and maybe mom...I think I might need her...lol.

I don't think I will mind visitors during labor. However, when it comes to push everyone except DH will be kicked out.

why would you want visitors during labor? my mil and fil drove me to the hospital and my mil came in once in awhile to check on me until dh arrivedbut really didnt want her there expecially since the doctor came in periodically to check me.

My sister delivered both of her kids at North Shore and we were all (all 3 sets of parents and me) in there at some point during her labor, but not all at the same time. Of course, when the pushing came, we left!
I delivered at LIJ. When I was in labor, my dad wanted to come in, but I was told the only people who were allowed in the L&D room were the ones who would be there for the birth--so, sorry, Dad, out of luck!!

My midwife said 2. So its Ron and my daughter Christina. I can also have a doula and that wont count toward the two. I still need to look into getting one

Re: Are you allowed to have visitors during labor? If so, do you plan on?(besides DH)
here you are allowed 2 ppl in the room (which you had to tell them at pre-admin)...I will only have DH that includes the time for labouring and pushing...grandparents can come visit anytime as well as the childs siblings if there are any once the baby is born...anyone else can only come between 2-8pm after the baby is born...2 visitors in the room at a time, plus one support person DH and myself...and of course baby
not sure what kind of security they have for the babies there, but here they now have infant alarms that go on the babies ankle...if the baby leaves your room out of the bassinet it goes off and they can track it on the computer...the baby is never to leave the room out of the bassinet...the only time the baby is out, is in the room with you...they stay in the room 24/7

I don't want visitors. My DH is allowed to be there. Everyone else can JUST WAIT. This is NOT the time to be socializing. At least, not for me.

Re: Are you allowed to have visitors during labor? If so, do you plan on?(besides DH)
I don't know how many I was allowed to have, but I had my DH and my mom there. Originally I only wanted my DH there, but when it was time to push, my mom asked if I wanted her to leave and at that point I really didn't care anymore so I said she could stay. I knew she would love to be there, but would have happily left if I asked her to. I really wouldn't have cared if more people were there when I was in labor, but not pushing. I got an epidural so I was just resting/sleeping/watching tv for many hours.

I feel the same way.
I'm not a pleasant person when I'm in pain. Most people know that about me so I won't have to fend off many visitors - except my mom who really, really, really wants to be there. :sigh:

I work at a hospital in Westchester. You can only have 2 people in the room with you while on Labor and Delivery. You are not allowed to swap out people either, so once you are in, those are the only 2 people in there with you. We do this for privacy and to avoid confusion with all of the nurses and the doctor.

Re: Are you allowed to have visitors during labor? If so, do you plan on?(besides DH)
My entire family was in and out pretty much the whole time. My hospital was really lax as to how many people could be in there. The room was huge and at one point I think there were probably 6 or so people in there at once. When I was ready to push I asked everyone to leave except DH.

labor is awful and there is no way that I wanted anyone in there except for DH. My mom came in the room brefly, but for support and to see how I was feeling.
