Are you getting a flu shot?
I never got them before I was pregnant. I'm wondering if I should get them now that I am pregnant.
I really hate needles.

100% no.
My DH has gotten the actual flu every single time he's gotten the flu shot. No thank you.

Re: Are you getting a flu shot?
yes. i have gotten one for the last 8 years or so and my OB strongly recommends getting one while pregnant. Several of the pediatricians we met with also recommend daddy and grandparents get one as well if baby is arriving during flu season

No, I got one once and had a horrible allergic reaction. I'll never do that again.

Re: Are you getting a flu shot?
I just got one this week at my doctor's office. Definitely talk to your doctor about it. It's recommended that pregnant women get the flu shot. Pregnancy compromises your immunity making you more susceptible to illness. Pregnant women are also more likely to have complications and be hospitalized due to the flu. There has been some evidence that the flu shot given to women at least 1 month before giving birth provides some protection for the baby against the flu (I think the baby may be protected up to 5 or 6 months of age).
I've gotten the flu shot every year since I had a bad case of the flu in college. I personally felt the benefits far outweighed any risks. I know there's some concern about thermisol, but my doctor's office has thermisol-free vaccines.

Re: Are you getting a flu shot?
Yes. I've gotten one every year for a number of years now and never get the flu or have any bad reactions to it. I asked my OB and he recommended I get it. He said if I didn't get one now, he'd want to give me one right after delivery.
he also said he gets them every year, and swears each time that he gets a little sick from it. but said that everyone tells him that's in his head and it doesn't really happen.

Re: Are you getting a flu shot?
I just got mine this week. I've gotten one every year for awhile now since I work in healthcare. I've never had an issue with any type of reaction to the shot. Talk to your doc about it.

Re: Are you getting a flu shot?
Yes I am getting it. I work in a hospital and we are getting more and more patients that have the flu and dont realize it. Luckily this year we haven't been designated the flu floor

Re: Are you getting a flu shot?
Yup- I did it the last pregnancy and will do it this time. I had a horrible flu a few years ago and can't imagine having that while pregnant.

No way here. I agree.
I got it once in my life and for like two months I felt ill, feverish. No joke. I would never get it while pg. I rather take my chances on getting the actual flu.

Re: Are you getting a flu shot?
Yes- I already got it last week. MY OB highly recommends getting the flu shot while your pregnant. she told me there is no mercury or preservatives in the shot. I never got the shot before and I didn't have any reaction to it nor did I get any cold like symptoms. I'm a teacher and work with little kids and DH is a doctor so we both bring home lots of germs, plus DH got the flu last year, so I didn't want to chance it.

If you're considering getting one and have never had one I wouldn't incase of an allergic reaction.

Re: Are you getting a flu shot?
no. I do not like the idea of putting the actual virus into my body. I have never had the flu before (even being a teacher for 5 years) and do not react well to immunizations since I had a bad reaction to the HepB series of shots a few years ago.

Can I ask where you got the Thimerisol free version of the shot? There is a small amount of thimerisol in the regular shot - you have to get one that specifically doesn't have it - and unfortunately all the clinics (like at CVS etc) all carry the one with the preservatives.
My OB doesn't recommend it in the 1st trimester - but highly recommends it after that period. My OB doesn't give it and my PCP only gives it to his geriatric patients and he only has the ones with thimerisol. I want to get one only when I can bc I have seen what happens to kids and pregnant women who get the flu and I want to try to avoid that if possible.

Re: Are you getting a flu shot?
Yes, I am definitely getting had. I just had this discussion with my ob yesterday. She strongly recommended it. I will most likely get it from the hospital before I am discharged, after the baby is born. DH just got his yesterday. We both work with kids and the last thing I need is for Baby P*star to get sick.
