Not buying NB... I got enough of it from from the shower and am even thinking of returning them...
Besides, they will only be wearing it for a few weeks, if at all. You can just put 0-3 size clothes on them.
no you can't put them in 0-3 if they're too little!!!! DS was measuring at way over 8 pounds and was born at 7 pounds.
he wore NB for over a month. he COULD NOT fit in 0-3 for several weeks. it's kind of like fitting a size 4 woman in size 18 clothes--it just doesn't work. and it's unsafe to have illfitting clothes on a newborn.
honestly ladies, from my own experience and that of my friends, i would definitely get some NB outfits! don't worry how baby is measuring-they're usually wrong. some babies skip NB altogether, but most wear it for at least a few weeks.
oh---and don't go just by family history---DH was 11 pounds, his sister 10 pounds and his brother 12 pounds at birth. and i still gave birth to a peanut.

I'm only going to get one NB outfit to bring the baby home in. The rest will be 0-3 months.

I am going to try for a few newborn outfits because 0-3 were swimming on my son. He was 7lbs 15oz.
I used 0-3 for his take home outfit and it took a while for him to fit into it.
0-3 will last longer.
The problem this time is that I am due in August so I will only have a short time for the new baby to be in summer clothes and then it will get colder . My son was born in April so the short sleeve stuff I had in 0-3 months lasted him all summer.

With my first DC I had newborn things - even diapers. My DD was almost 10 lbs and believe it or not they still fit. Carters runs big IMO. So half of the sleepers I had tha were newborn she wore for a month.

DH and I thought we had it all figured out and had a few NB things but mainly 0-3. DD was 6lbs 9oz and 18.5 in and even the NB stuff was HUGE on her. Poor little thing. We ended up having to go out and by her more NB stuff because all her pants were too big, sleepers and onesies were just ridiculous on her and 0-3 socks! Oh My! They fell right off.
Everyone said ' So what if its a little big, she'll grow into them', but it drove me INSANE!!
IMO, get a nice mix of both and take the tags off as you go this way you can return what you don't need. DD is 7 weeks and still in some NB clothes.

i already replied to this post, but needed to agree with this!!
you take your baby home and you want them to look perfect... and then people tell you to leave them in clothing that looks funny cause it's too big 
drove me crazy too!

Take my advice...I have a 2 month old..purchase a couple of nb clothes and then get 0-3 months...babies grow out of nb clothing quickly...

we haven't bought anything, but I'm betting my little bean won't be in NB long since he's already measuring big and babies in my family are always big.
I actually have more 0-3.

DH was a HUGE baby - over 10 pounds. I was a normal baby at 7 pounds 8 ounces.
I think I will get one of those 5 packs of NB Carter's and the rest will be 0-3 months. If we need more, I can always send DH to the store.

I have NB size -- I'm having twins and they will be smaller than a singleton baby -- at least, they better be! If I have 2 eight-pounders in there, I'm in trouble!

No matter how big your baby is, unless its ten pounds or over at birth, you will need some newborn outfits for at least the first two weeks.
