Are you giving you child the flu shot??
Here we go again.....what are your thoughts?
MY Dr told me that this year the H1N1 and the "reg flu shot" are all in one shot???

my DS is almost 1 and i gave him the flu shot at his 11 month well visit. hes also a daycare baby.

Yes, he got it last year when he was a little over 6 months (at that time he got them separate AND the booster for both). Had no issues.
This year he'll also get it. He goes to daycare. I'm in NJ and actually think they have to get the shot if they go to school. Not 100% sure, but regardless he's getting it

yes.
Every single year, there are several different strains of the flu in the seasonal flu shot. The strains in it change from year to year, every year, based on the prediction of what the most prominent strains will be. This years is no different than all of the years before, just this year, one of the strains included is the H1N1. The make up of the shot is exactly the same as it has always been, and just the strains have changed, as they do every year.

She is a daycare baby as well
We don't do flu shots.
ETA: yes they combine the virus they know about from the year before usually around 3. So since they knew of H1N1, its been added to the mix this year. then again, it may not even be a factor this year and there may be a whole new strain (like last year) and then folks will scrabble for that vaccination. Heck none of the chosen viruses may hit and then its a wasted vaccination. It's just a chance you take. But *IF* I did do flu shots the combo part wouldn't bother me.

Yes. DS already got his and DD got her first part, going back for her second part in a couple of weeks since this is the first year she is getting it.
Had H1N1 come out earlier in the season last year, it would have been included in the regular flu shot. But because it came out later, they didn't have enough time to incorporate it into the shot, hence the reason it was a separate shot.

Yes, he is in daycare and my sister had it last week so I know its around her house who also lives with my mom where DS is on Tuesdays!

Yes DH, Andrew, Teddy, & I got the flu shot already. Since Teddy started school we have had some major sicknesses passed to all of us. Not taking the chance with my 5 month old.

yes, DS got it yesterday for the 1st time (he's 3yrs 4 months). We did the flu mist and so far he's fine. He's in daycare a couple days of week so we felt it was necessary to give him. Me and my DHw ill get it too but we are not giving it to my 8 month old as she's not in daycare yet

Yes both girls got theirs this past Friday.
The H1N1 really is only another strain of the flu. It would have been in the shot last year but they didn't have it ready in time. Technically the flu shot is new every year b/c they "guess" what strains will be prevalent and use those - this year it just included the H1N1 strain.
