Poll- Will/Did your child get the flu shot?
DS went to his 6 month appt. today & the dr. recommended he get a flu shot. I didn't do it, and am undecided about it. Just wondering what you did with DC.

DD got it last year at 6 months. She will get it again this year. There are lots of opinions on both sides, but for US, there's no question about her getting it-- DH & I both work in school settings with lots of germs.

Definitely - we have a long trip (by airplane) planned so she is getting it a few days beforehand.

All 4 of us will. DD is very young, so she is vulnerable. DS is in school now, so he will potentially be exposed to it. I'm diabetic, so I'm in the high-risk category, and DW wants to keep the rest of us healthy, and doesn't want to get it herself.
DW and I have both gotten the flu years ago, and can't imagine not doing whatever we can to prevent DC from getting it.

DS did get one (well the first dose) I got the flu once and it was horrible. But more importantly, the flu can be deadly in children, the elderly or those with serious illness, my thought is I dont want to take the chance. I know that the shot does not prevent all strands of the disease, but for me its worth it to hopefully prevent as many as possible when it may come to life/death.
My DH, myself and both my ILs are going to get the flu shot as we all care for him and the ped recommended it for us. I got it last year when I was pregnant as well

I am a teacher and come in contact with a lot of sick children...so Lily got the flu shot.

I turned it down today when I was at doctors for DS because I only allow 2 shots at any one time. bUt I a still considering it. I want to talk to his neurologist tomorrow about it, and just get another opinion.

DS1 already got his. DS2 is too young to get his.
DS1 is in school and it is actually a state law now that everyone enrolled in school has to get one.

We live in NJ and DS goes to daycare 3 days a week... it is now a law in NJ for children to get the flu shot. So my decision was basically already made for me! (plus I want to do everything in my power to avoid my little guy getting the flu)

We got it for her monday - I'm pregnant and she got it last year - I have seen what happens to young kids who get the flu and I want to try to protect DD as much as possible. I understand it doesn't cover every strain etc but if it protects from any it is better than nothing. My ped only carries the thimerisol free version.
