Are you having your baby room in with you in the hospital?
I am, just wondering if I am the odd one.
I put it on my 'Birth Preferences' document.

Re: Are you having your baby room in with you in the hospital?
Absolutely. My hospital encourages it and does not really take them unless you 'need' to. However with DH being there to me there is no need.

Re: Are you having your baby room in with you in the hospital?
It depends on your hospital rules.
At Winthrop you cannot keep DC during the visiting hours of 6-8pm when the general public come to visit. All babies are in the nurseries during those time. I am not sure about the evening hours. I think they are only out of the nursery to be fed by BF moms. They brough DS to me to be BFd then took him back.
They recommend not to room in with your baby when you sleep (either at night or when you nap). Your DC would be unsupervised and your room does not lock.
ETA: Baby roomed in with me during the day.

Honestly during the day... yes. But at night, i plan on getting as much sleep as i can before we go home! So he/she will be in the nursery during the night time.

Wow. I never thought about this safety issue. It makes me nervous.

I thought that all of the newborns have the electronic security bracelets that sound alarms if they are take "out" of the specified area??

Same here. Plus, I understand at Winthrop your roommate has to be OK with your baby rooming in and there is a security issue. I don't want to be up all night concerned about security.

Yes they do have the bracelet but do you know who will come in your room if you are asleep? You just never know who could touch DC.

Honestly, this is the best that you can do for yourself...try to get some sleep after delivery. I kept my son at night with me for the first night and the second night I told the nurse to take him and to bring him back for his feeding.

Re: Are you having your baby room in with you in the hospital?
I am planning on keeping the baby with me. Stony Brook has all private rooms and allows it, and all of the babies have the lo-jack thing. (Tara I am sure you already know that). If I need a break I will call the nurses, but for now the plan is to keep the baby with me. I want to breastfeed in the hospital and start pumping at home.

Re: Are you having your baby room in with you in the hospital?
at our hospital someone has to be awake if you have the baby in the room with you. So 99% of the time she will be with us, until we want some sleep. But I am planning to BF so they will wake me for feedings.

This is what I did too, as did almost everyone else at St. Charles. I wanted the baby safely locked in the nursery when I was sleeping, and when it was time to BF, she was brought to me. I wanted her as safe as possible, as I did not have a private room. As it is, she was in every 2 hours to nurse, so I saw her lots during the night And I showered while DH was there so he would be with DD.

Yes I am planning to have the baby with me 24/7 in my room. If I want some time to take a shower, I can have the nurses take the baby to the nursery for a little while.

Re: Are you having your baby room in with you in the hospital?
I'm planning on it but at night I'm still up in the air. I might have hem just keep bringing him back when he needs to feed so I can sleep without worrying for a couple of hours. DH will be home with our son so we can''t shifts like we did with DS. We were so crazy with him. We kept him in the room and would sleep in shifts ---- haha --- I totally forgot about that until now.

Re: Are you having your baby room in with you in the hospital?
I plan on having the baby stay with me all day/night. I plan to EBF and this is the best way to prevent nurses from giving the baby formula.
At the hospital I am delivering at, all patients who use a midwife automatically get a private room. When I shower I will make sure DH is there to watch the baby.

Re: Are you having your baby room in with you in the hospital?
Winthrop won't let you have the baby alll night (they will bring baby in for bfeeding). So, I won't have baby with me all the time...

Re: Are you having your baby room in with you in the hospital?
my baby was with me the whole time, I would not have it any other way
She cried ALOT so teh night before we were discharged, the nurse INSISTED that she take dd into the nursery so we could get a few hours of sleep...It was great and the nurse brought DD back in when she needed to be breast fed

at my hospital here in NC, they had a great system, called hugs and kisses
the baby is banded around the wrist and ankle with this device and if someone takes them from the room, an alarm would go off....ALSO if ANYONE tried to put the baby in the elevator, the whole hospital ward would lock down and the person would NOT be able to leave
All of the rooms are private as well, so that was great

Like I did with my son, this baby will be with me all day and evening. At night, he/she will be going to the nursery.
