Re: Are you having your baby room in with you in the hospital?

I did not. And actually it was the greatest decision for me. I think the sleep I got in the hospital helped me to heal from my c-section quickly. I left the hospital after 3 nights and had no pain or discomfort.

If you chose not to, dont feel guilty. I did at first but then I realized I have the REST of my life to wake up with my son in the middle of the night, it was more important for me to heal so that I was able to care for him for fully once I was no longer surrounded by a team of nurses.

I kept the baby with me in the room most of the day...unless I needed to shower. I also had the nurse take DD at night so I can get some sleep. I know it sounds bad, but I knew once I was home...that luxury was over!

I kept him with me day and night. He slept alot and was really quiet, so it didn't affect my ability to sleep. Although I was way too excited to sleep. I kept getting up and looking at him.

I really recommend keeping baby with you as much as possible -- your taking that kid home, so the more you're used to caring for him night and day the more comfortable you'll be. Also, if you're breastfeeding you'll start to learn his hunger cues while he's with you in the hospital, which will also make things easier.

I had him with me during the day, but at night, no. It was the best decision--these were the last 2 nights I slept (mostly) without interruptions. Delivery was the most exhausting thing I ever did, and that sleep was precious.

So I would advise anyone to think about bringing DC to the nursery at night. You will be getitng up with him/her for many nights to come, but it's a personal decision.

Chelsea spent the nights in the nursery. I was not BF and with a c-section couldn't move very much in the beginning. Plus DH went home at nights so it was just easier for me for the nurses to take her at night.

I delivered at Winthrop both times and both times the baby was with me durning the day except visiting hours at night and then they brought the baby to me to nurse at 12am, 3am, 6am. If they were crying because they were hungery sooner they brought them sooner. I also had a private room.

They recommend not to room in with your baby when you sleep (either at night or when you nap). Your DC would be unsupervised and your room does not lock.

Wow. I never thought about this safety issue. It makes me nervous.

Yeah you have to check the hosptial security. Mine is pretty cool and high tech. Each baby, mother and father have 'loJack' on plus the doors lock on the floor. If the baby is taken ONE foot outside the room door an alarm goes off and the police are notified. I'm VERY happy with this. It allows me to be with my baby.

Re: Are you having your baby room in with you in the hospital?

no, I got a weird feeling on night one and had him brought to the nursery.

A guy came in at around 9 PMish, I was sleeping, Leo was running errands before returning...the guy came in to check my temp.

I was half asleep and out of it. I realized my door is unlocked and my baby is laying there unprotected while I sleep.

The nursey is set up like Fort Knox...so I felt much more comfortable that he was in there while I slept.

Yes they do have the bracelet but do you know who will come in your room if you are asleep? You just never know who could touch DC.

exactly my feeling. Even though I was EBF, I did not like the set up at all.

Could not agree more! You're not really going to sleep form al the excitement (or at least this is me). It's my child I don't feel comfortable giving birth and then them taking her. It's just me and yes it's a total non judgemental persoanl decision. To each's own. Have to do what's best for you.

I live in MD and the hospital I am delivering at only has private maternity rooms & the baby stays with you. All of the rooms also have fold out couches for dad. They don't even have a nursery - just a NICU.

Re: Are you having your baby room in with you in the hospital?

DD was with me all day, but at night, after about 10pm when DH left, she slept in the nursery & was brought to me for BFing. I wanted her to room in, but I had a bad recovery from my CS. Most of the time I was in the hospital, I was unable to sit up without help. I was too scared to be alone with her when I could hardly hold myself up.

This time, if I get my VBAC, I hope to have the baby room in with me.

Re: Are you having your baby room in with you in the hospital?

I plan to have her with me during the day and let her sleep in the nursery at night. I can arrange for the nurses to bring her to me for feedings during the night.

I just feel that: (a) I'll need the sleep to recover more quickly - so I'll be better prepared when I leave the hospital, and (b) if she sleeps in the room with me, I'll be too tempted just to stare at her all night!

You gals are smart Chat Icon

I can tell you from experience...i was EXHAUSTED at night after giving birth and the baby was too! He slept in the nursery and I slept too...

Although at one point I missed him a lot, lol..so I asked the nurse to bring him to me so I could just look at him again, lol.
