Argh!!!!! Intern! ...and question about BPP/NST tests
A new intern started today at my Dr.'s office and I swear she screwed up my Blood pressure. She took 138/97. As my fingers and feet are a tiny bit swollen my Dr. felt this was cause for concern and re-took my BP, it was 120/80, like it has been at every other visit so far. How does it change that much in 10 minutes?
Even so, I now have to pee in a bucket for 24 hours - oh joy. I'm being sent for a growth sono, Biophysical Profile and NST.
Can anyone tell me what the BPP and NST are like and do you get to see the baby? I'm going to LIJ for it.

my BP is always 110/70. it rarely moves from there, it's actually kinda freaky how consistent it is.
I don't know about the BPP or NST.

Re: Argh!!!!! Intern! ...and question about BPP/NST tests
Hey Patti,
My bp was like that one week also & then I came back 2 days later & it was fine....
The BPP for me was just a regular sono & they took her measurements again.
Not sure about the other.

the nst is a non stress test. They hook you up to a machine th listen to the heartbeat and see if you are having contractions.

Re: Argh!!!!! Intern! ...and question about BPP/NST tests
The BPP for me was just a sono where they took her measurements.
The NST they hooked me up to the external fetal heart monitor and contractions monitor and took measurements for about 20 minutes or so. It was more of a pain in the butt than anything else as they had me lying on my side and it was a little uncomfortable.

I have to do fetal monitoring every day and its so hard to stay still. I have one stretchy band arond my belly to measure baby reactivity and HR and another for contractions. My doc is going to start doing it in the morning and at night for 30 miins each time

i feel your pain. when i was recently hospitalized for contractions i wore the stretchie band with the contraction monitor ALL NIGHT! and they wanted me to also wear the baby heartrate monitor, but he was crazy and wouldn't lie still and kept on hiding from it. the nurse had to come every 2 minutes to readjust... finally the doctor just said forget it, if he's moving that much he's obviously doing ok... but having to wear that band and lie still SUX...

Re: Argh!!!!! Intern! ...and question about BPP/NST tests
when they say your BP is 120/80 that is the standard healthy reading, so it usually isn't exactly accurate. i wouldn't pay much attention to that.
