Armour vs. Synthroid

Anyone take Armour? I'm not sure I want to sick with Synthroid, but need an alternative.

Armour vs. Synthroid

I have an endocrinologist appointment on the 31st and I am going to be asking for a switch to either Armour or Nature Thyroid. I've been on Synthroid for 6 years and I still feel very symptomatic, even though they tell me my levels are all fine. I'm still gaining weight depite everything I do to avoid it, my hair and nails are so brittle and dry, and my skin is cracking all over.

I've heard great things about Armour.

Re: Armour vs. Synthroid

my old doctor was fine with my levels - yet I struggle to lose weight

my new doctor took 1 look at my blood work and upped my dosage

some doctors use the outdated chart- mine was

ask to see the blood work

I was 1.78 - which is "in range" but it could be better

I am waiting for my high rx now- I am so happy to have a doctor who doesn't just do the minimum

could you fm me the name of your dr? my levels are "normal" but my dr actually cut my dose in half(now taking 25 mcg) and I've gained 25 pounds despite dieting, hair loss, cold, tired even though Iam sleeping 12 hours! I can't live like this!

Re: Armour vs. Synthroid

I have heard great things about Armour but my doctor absolutely does not believe the hype and he keeps me on Synthroid. We discussed a trial of Cytomel but we aren't sure I really have reason to make a change. When my levels were within normal limits but not where my doctor liked them to be, he tweaked my medications and it made things much better. I feel bad when people say their doctors wouldn't tweak it further.

Can I ask who your dr is? I'm looking for a new endocrinologist.

Thanks!

Re: Armour vs. Synthroid

So I called my Endo and she's not a fan of Armour. She did put a script in the mail because she wants to see my levels and possibly play around with my dose. I'm glad she isn't just telling me to 'deal' with not being 100%. I really like/trust her and feel better knowing that we're taking a step in the right direction.

Hope everyone stays healthy!

That's great that your doctor is being responsive. Unfortunately, that's pretty rare!

Re: Armour vs. Synthroid

I see Dr Harris as well and just saw her last week. I asked about using Armour, she is not a fan because it is not a consistent dose. It is crushed pig thyroid..Per the dr people like because it is "natural" . I too would like to find something natural and not lab made, but I am not a fan of pig thyroid (just my own feelings).

My recent TSH was over 14, .too high and too high for a pregnancy. I have be gaining wt as well.. not sure if the high TSH is why
