Assessed value of home
I called the Town of Islip to get the assessed value of a home we are currently interested in purchasing.
The women I spoke with said the assessed value is $44,400. Does anyone know the formula used to figure out the Market Value of the home?

Re: Assessed value of home
The assessed value of a home often has very little to do with the market value of a home. Each municipality comes up with it's own method to determine this, some use full value, others a percentage. The town I live in has not reassesed since the real estate boom because it would cause too drastic of an increase in property taxes, they are in the process of determining a new formula so property taxes don't increase 25% the way the market value of a home has.
The best way to figure out the market value is to talk to an appraiser. A real estate agent should be able to give you a good idea, if you have a seller's agent.
Good Luck
