At home hair dye
I have never done my roots but cannot wait. Can anyone recommend a good hair dye to cover gray roots until Salon opens? Should I avoid ammonia?

Have you tried to reach your hairdresser? Mine offers root kits that she mixes specifically for that client and she has offered help in a solution for non clients.

I use L’Oréal excellence cream & love it. I stopped having it done at the salon years ago because my roots are so bad after 4 weeks. It was costing a fortune!

I would also reach out to your hair dresser. If you're a regular client, they might mix your normal color for you. It is against the rules and they could lose their license, but some of them are still doing it, and I can't blame anyone for trying to make a living. If that doesn't work out, I just read about Madison Reed. Professional mixed color they mail to you. I haven't tried it, but the reviews I read seemed to rave about it.

My salon has started doing this but only certain days. I was going to hold out and wait until they opened, but I feel like I want to do this today or tomorrow. Not sure I want to wait until next week. If I don't do it sooner, I will reach out to them. I have never done this before on myself so not sure I wanted to spend the $$ to have it mixed for me when I know I am not going to be able to do it fully.

Well when you mix the dye, you’re then walking out and about with chemicals essentially, it’s not very safe to be transporting. I speculate that the salons don’t want to waste product by providing a tube of product when the client might only a half or quarter of a tube. I also speculate they may be afraid to lose clients if the clients find out their formula, they will just start doing it at home. They really stand to lose a lot of business.

i've been coloring my own hair at home since i was 14.5.
i used to used the boxed stuff you get at the drug store and then moved on to mixing my own.
it's not that scary and if you pick a color that's close to your natural color... only to cover gray... it should be pretty easy.
but, if your salon will mix it for you i say go for it.
i use l'oreal excellence hicolor reds.

The salon I normally go to posted on their FB page that it's against the law and they can't mix color. I guess they've had a lot of people asking. They also posted the amount of the fine and how long the license suspension is. So I guess that means it's actually against the law. That being said, I know some of the colorists in our town posted on FB that you can message them and they will mix color and deliver it. I don't think stylists are afraid of losing business if you find out the formula. I mean, I can always dry my hair myself, but I still like to get blowouts. People will always pay for the service of having things done for them.

My issue is not the dye as my place was giving it out too but getting every spot as well as my girl does. Even when my husband has done it for me it was never as thorough as she does it.
I am just going to wait and use the spray if I have to go someplace important, not food shopping.
I went out last week with no hat and realized I did not care lol.

This is the same for me. I am not going to get everything. So I thought of bypassing waiting to make appt to pick up at salon and just getting a box and try to do the front hairline. Not sure I want to spend the $$ on the salon mixing it if I know it is not going to be put on right.

My hairdresser sold me my color and I mixed it at home and put it on. It wasn't great but my hair looks better than it did...

They are are opening salons in FL on Monday. So jealous of them having hope and seeing progress.

Yes that too as I would ruin my highlights.

Lol. I really don't get frizz. I'm plagued with the finest, thinnest, limpest hair on the planet, but the one thing is, it never frizzes.
