At the end of the rope...
Bella was a great sleeper, from a young age, we basically say good night to her and she would go to sleep...often times begging to go "night-night" if we kept her up past a certain time.
The day after thanksgiving she got a really bad virus and was sick for a full week. Ever since then, lordy-freakin-loo.
THIS IS MY PROBLEM... Every, single naptime and bedtime we go to her crib say good nap or night and she gives kisses and hugs...tells us she loves us, grabs her stuffed monkey, and snuggles under the covers.
AS SOON as we leave the room she chucks the monkey (without fail) and as soon as it hits the floor she starts crying for it back. We wait. We go in, we ask her why, she tells us to take the monkey...after trying to reason with her we do...she cries for however long we let her go, bring her back in the monkey, cover her, and she goes to sleep. The whole scenario last anywhere from 5-10 minutes total and it totally stresses me out.
What is it? Obvious manipulation, but why would she want to be hysterical? I mean, why?
I am stumped.

Re: At the end of the rope...
Katherine has been doing a similar thing for the past couple of months. She goes down, no problem. Then she starts yelling about something..."Blow my nose!!!" "Turn on my radio!!!" And the best..."Tie Ba's tie!!!" (Ba is her little sheep who wears a ribbon...god forbid it's untied ) I usually go in and give her what she wants, but sometimes she does it multiple times in a row and at that point I tell her that I'm not coming back in to blow her nose again, etc. and so far it's worked. Maybe they have to know we're not going to play that game all night long. I'm sure I've just jinxed myself for tonight though
Let's just hope it's simply an annoying phase that they'll soon grow out of.

I would be fine if I thought she was doing the typical "stalling for time" but it's the same script every night. She won't sleep without monkey, but she will throw it and tell you to take away only to go into hysterics asking for it back.
It's masochistic almost. . . I don't know what the right thing to do is...I used to give it back, now I take it away...nothing is working.

Re: At the end of the rope...
and again...this time she has thrown everything out of the crib and is SCREAMING. I don't know how many more nights I can do this. I took it all.

Re: At the end of the rope...
It's just a procrastination tactic...
I go through the same thing every night. I also tell Talia I am not coming back again after I go in two or three times...usually she is ok with that and goes to sleep. It's a pain...i hate it - but I am hoping like everything else it's just a phase.

Sydney does the same thing with her binky. She will throw it and then cry for it. We give it back to her and she goes to sleep. Its a game they like to play.
