At what age did you get your child involved in social activities?
Like Gymboree, library activities, etc.

Our local library classes started at 3 months. His first class was 3 days before he was 3 months. Even that young, he noticeably enjoyed looking at other babies. And I enjoyed getting out! 5 months later, I'm finally starting to chat with other moms!

Oh wow! That's great. My library has a class for ages 3 and under, but I was nervous I would have the smallest babies there..they are almost a year old.
Can I ask, what do they do for the babies that young?

Re: At what age did you get your child involved in social activities?
DD#1 i think it was somewhere between 18-24 months when we enrolled in gymboree. she also attended a drop-off babysitting service at a local church once a week and then twice a week during the school year.
DD#2 is 15 months and i don't plan on enrolling her in any classes. i will start the drop-off babysitting in the fall...

One is a Baby Time prewalker class, three months and up. We all sit in a circle around a sheet on the floor. There are toys and mini blow up beach balls for the babies to play with while everyone arrives. The babies do tummy time or show off their sitting or crawling or rolling abilities while the mommies chat! Then she collects the toys, keeping chewed on in a separate bag and we sing songs with babies in our laps (or sitting in front if they sit). Some they lay on their backs like the wheels on the bus and we move their legs to the round and round, open and shut and swish swish swish (wipers on the bus). I do this with DS daily and it's one of his favorite get me out of a crank exercises. They play "soccer" which is a big hit. Holding babies under their arms, we make them "kick" a soccer beach ball around the circle. They love that! We sing Hokey Pokey, standing up, doing put your babies up, put your babies down, put your babies in. I'm a little tea pot. Tick tock, I'm a cuckoo clock, etc. Just fun nursery rhymes with movements. She switches it up each time. That woman does a really great class. Her name is Kathy Roeder and does a few libraries. Oh, first we do a round the room intro of us, baby and what new thing is going on, which leads to some fun side chats. We also do if you're happy and you know it, parachute time and bubble time to music. Really fun! And she does Toddler Time for walkers through 23 months. ETA: This meets two times a month.
The other is a Mother Goose class for birth to 3 years. There we read nursery rhymes from a felt board, sing old mcDonald as she passes each child a stuffed animal to sing, we read a book that she holds (she picks one with large letters so we all can read aloud), and she ends each class with twinkle twinkle little star and hands out a star on a stick for kids to take turns holding. ETA: This meets once a month.

Re: At what age did you get your child involved in social activities?
We started with the mommy and me class in the hospital when DS was 6 weeks old and never looked back. I needed to get out of the house and that was a wonderful outlet.
ETA: In Central New Jersey there is My Gym in Bridgewater Gymboree in Basking Ridge Gymboree in Summit (in a Church Rec Room only certain days) YMCA for swim classes, dance classes Music Together in Morristown, Basking Ridge Kidnetics has Music, Art, Gym and Dance Wiggles and Giggles has gym class Kings Cooking Studio has cooking classes for age 3+

I don't think he ever really wasn't involved in social activities. We started with Music Together.
LIF playdates count, too!!!!!!!

We started DD at Music Together when she was just shy of 3 months. We thought it would be a waste since she was so young, but she loved it! She still does--only now she can clap and "sing" along to the songs in the car

Re: At what age did you get your child involved in social activities?
I think we did a few classes at the library when they were around 5-6 months old. They are in little gym now at 14 months. When we did a trial class, it was for younger babies and there were some as little as 4 months.

Re: At what age did you get your child involved in social activities?
We did library classes at about 5 months old. Started Music together just before her first b-day. Did a gym class after that and moved on to mommy and me. We now do a mommy and me with a partial seperation and she will be going to preschool two days a week in Sept. She loves social activities and asks me almost everyday to go play with friends.
ETA: Take advantage of the free trials they offer. You can get a ton of free play out of it and an idea of what fits for you and your DC.

Re: At what age did you get your child involved in social activities?
10 months - Gymboree. I didn't really like it though, so I stopped. Started another mommy & me at 18 months. He was going to that until he started camp, then preschool.
