What's the ideal age to put a child in daycare/preschool for social development?
I'm trying to figure out what to do about childcare once my maternity leave is up. My mom is willing to watch the baby but I do want the baby to have social interaction.
I know at my last doctor's appointment I saw an 18 month old boy who was SUPER energetic and running around. Definitely by 18 months I would the child should be in daycare/preschool.

Well, until a child is aged 2 or 3 they don't really play together, they more parallel play so I don't know it if makes a difference from that perspective.
I will say DD has been in daycare since she was almost 3 months and is very comfortable around other people-adults and kids alike. I know my niece was home until she was a year and she had a hard time adjusting to others. I don't know if this is a daycare thing or a personality thing though.
I also like all the activities and structure of a daycare program-she does crafts, music, dance, etc and she is only 15 months.

I agree with Cranky
Also, every child is different; but there really is no specific age

My personal opinion is probably 18 months-2yrs of age. Although its easier to transition them in earlier than that.
I have been in the early childhood education field for over 8 years, and I see so many bonus to those children in an academic childcare program.

My mom stayed home with me when I was young. I was sent to nursery school when I was 2.5 yo. I know I was a very shy child. Not sure if it was just my personality.

I did mommy and me with my son until he was 3. Once he was 3 I enrolled him in the pre-school in my neighborhood. He goes for 4 hours a day every day. I was very scared to let him go, but the amount of things he is learning and how he grew socially is amazing.
