At what age did your child start writing...

In school? Also, when did your child really master writing their full name?

My DD started writing this school year at pre-K at 4. Now at 4 1/2, she can write her first and last name very well using capitals for the first letter and lowercase for the rest.

Jordan could write her 1st name by the end of her 1st year of Preschool and her full name early on in the next preschool year.

My daughter will be 4 in June. She can write her first name. They have been practicing in preschool. She goes 5 days a week 2 1/2 hours per day. She has such an amazing desire to read so she attempts to write all the letters of the alphabet and most of it is legible.

DD is finishing up nursery school (3-year old program). They have been tracing their name all year (proper case with initial Cap and lowercase letters). Now she can write her name if she sees it on her name tag, but doesn't remember it all from memory. She just turned 4.

In Kindergarten is when it was mastered. My older son did well by the end of Kindergarten and my daughter is currently in Kindergarten and while she was writing her name last year, she finally stopped writing everything backwards. She use to literally write stuff so you could read it properly if you held it up to a mirror. I found it a bit spooky actually. LOL

My little guy will be 4 in 2 weeks and he writes his first name in upper case but he doesn't have the command of the pencil or crayon, the letters are shaky.

Both my boys started learning to write in preschool (four years old) but DS1 learned in a more intensive way once he got to kindergarten.

My son can write his full first name-all iin caps- and a few easy short words like "dog" & "bug" and he is graduation from Pre-K in a few weeks.

I'm pretty sure they wrote some form of their name before kindergarten - but I'm not convinced they really 'got' what they were writing until Kindergarten. Before that I think my kids kind of copied and did what they were asked.. I feel like it *clicked* when they hit kindergarten. I could be completely wrong about that!

Ella will be 4 next month. She's been writing her name for awhile now, probably since 3? (first name only)

She has also mastered writing Erik's name without help. She'll write mom & dad too, but for anything else, I need to spell it out.

she wrote the alphabet out one day by herself, but the letters were all written backwards (mirror imaged) - freaked me out

Not really sure...Kevin I know by 3.5 he could definitely write his first name in all caps before he started school (PreK3). By 4 he could definitely write it well because I remember he writing out all his Valentines Day school cards and that was a couple weeks after he was 4. By 4 - he could write a bunch of words himself - like mom, dad, alex, etc. He use to ask me to how to spell things and he'd type them on the computer in Word and print it out so he could practice writing words...he has a file folder - he calls "his work"....it would be all family member names and his friends from school. THis year (so say 4.5), he added writing his last name to it - even before school started teaching it to them. He also started the lowercase instead of all caps. He also added a bunch more words to his list he can write on his own - unfortunately a bunch are potty/bathroom words!!!!

My little guy is 2.5 and he can write his first name in order in all caps.

All kids are different. My older son couldn't write his name legibly until halfway through K. My younger could do it beautifully at 3 years old.

Joey is in Pre-K and can write his first name. He is working on his last.

My older son was writing his first and last name perfectly by the time he was 4.

Every child is so different.

But in Kindergarten, it is one of the first things they will work on with your child.

Ava's school differentiates their instruction, so if the child is ready for reading and writing, they work on it differently than if they're not. For the most part in Nursery, they're expected to really just recognize their names, but Ava's been writing her full name since the beginning of the year. Now, she's working on mastering writing using proper capitals and lower case letters, but that's because she's up to that, not all the kids in her class are doing that, though and I see the 4 year old class working on writing their names, too.

My DS could write is full name completely and correctly by the end of kindergarten.

Nick is in Pre-K and can write his first and last name, the letters are kinda shaky but they are in the right order. :)

My DD was in a 3 year day care class and they learned a letter a week. By the end of Feb. she was able to write her name.
