I remember first watching it at 3 and loving it. I was obsessed with it for about 4 years.

I know!!! I've been obsessing about it actually Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have such cute pics of me watching it when I was little. It was a huge tradition in my family to watch it.

I just can't remember when I started watching it.

I am just worried that it might be a tad scary for a 2.5 year old Chat Icon Chat Icon

I was thinking of showing it to Cailen this year - it is his aunt's favorite movie and we spend the holidays with her, so maybe they can watch it together!

I think it depends on the kid. My oldest, Aviana, watched it before she was 2. I remember that day clearly. Went went to the Wiz (out of busniess now) and bought it for her. I think I watched The Wizard of Oz 5 times a day for a year. She loved it, we finally moved on from it and went to Annie.

Ayla who is 2 1/2 would have no use watching it and if she saw the witch she'd have nightmares fo a long time. It's not for her.

So from experience I say it depends on the kid.....

Nina is 20 months and she has watched it a handful of times. She loves the movie so much we had to buy the DVD for the car. Of course, she doesn't understand whats going on but she loves the music and vivid colors!

5 or 6. IMO it's too scary before that, and they wouldn't get it.

I was just about to show it to DS (26 months). My mom is convinced that the book and movie started my first fascination with the weather. She is definate it was the reason I became a meteorologist. (But we are steering DS away from that field! Chat Icon )

There is a big article in the Guardian this week about kids being exposed to scary stories and how they seem to help them to cope better with their fears later in life

Re: At what age do you think it's appropriate for kids to start watching "The Wizard of Oz?"

DD started watching it at 2 1/2- she loves it- and honestly, even though it is a *little* scary- it is less scary than, say, Snow White (um, the woodsman scene where he tries to axe snow white? yikes!)

Plus- the music is so amazing- and I think the moral of the story, well- it's sweet.

Re: At what age do you think it's appropriate for kids to start watching "The Wizard of Oz?"

I tried to get Robbie to watch it when he was 2 or 3.. but he just had NO INTEREST. He finally caught on around 5.. but was (and still is) really only interested in the flying monkeys and the *SPOILER ALERT*Chat Icon part where the witch melts. Noah is 6 and only wants to see the parts where the Munchkins are talking.
