I never woke her to eat. I agree with the other posters in not waking a sleeping baby.... they will let you know if they are hunger.

I was told you had to wake the baby every 2-3hrs. I felt so guilty today, because I let him sleep for 4hrs before I woke him up. I was so tired from being up so many times last night. I needed some sleep.

i was told that too... my dd didn't want to do anything BUT sleep. if i let her, she'd prob. go 6 hrs. without eating. i think once a pattern is established and you know your baby will wake up every 3-4 hrs. or so, it's okay to let them tell you when they're hungry.

I was told to stop at 2 weeks. Once the ped made sure she was gaining weight, he said there was no need. She was born 7lbs 7oz, came home 6lbs 12oz, and was 8 lbs 6 oz at 2 weeks when he said we did not need to wake her.

Cailen woke up every 2 hours like clock work until he was 13 months old. If there was ever a night where he slept more than 2 hours in a row, we tiptoed and hardly breathed!!! Chat Icon

I was told unless the baby was premature or having underweight (or not gaining) issues that you should let them sleep and they will let you know when they want to be feed

Re: At what point do you stop waking a baby to eat every 2-3 hrs?

For the first few weeks I woke DD up every 2.5-3 hrs to eat. But that was due to weight issues and at the recommendation of my ped. Now, I let her sleep. She wakes up anywhere between 3-4hrs. She does sometimes have one stretch at night that's about 5-5.5 hrs.

I used to wake Lily every 3 hours to eat because she had her days and n ights mixed up and I was trying to fix it. But we stopped being so strict with it once she started sleeping well at night....
Every baby is different.

we did the same thing with our DD and it really helped to get her on a feeding schedule early...

i also never woke my DD. 'Never wake a sleeping baby' was my motto, still is Chat Icon they seem to be designed to wake as soon as they are hungry, so i always just made sure a bottle was ready for her around the time she should be eeating, because if she slept through, then i knew when she woke, she would be starving

I'm just wondering when you can just let the baby sleep until he/she wakes up and is ready to eat. I wake DS up every 2-3 hrs to eat. I don't wake the baby up during the night, I let him tell me when he wants to eat.

My dr. also told me to wake DD, but it was every 3-4 hours. He said to do it to make sure your millk supply is established...when I went for my DD's one month visit he told me to not wake her...so I guess sometime before one month:))

I started waking her up when I was nursing, then I knocked some sense into myself and let her wake me. I was a zombie and couldn't function as a parent on the (lack of) quality of sleep I was getting.

Re: At what point do you stop waking a baby to eat every 2-3 hrs?

wow, i am the minority. I usually wake my 3 1/2 month old during the day if he goes longer than 4 hours. I do that b/c i prefer him to get most of his bottles during the day then at night. i maybe wake him once a day to feed him, the other times he lets me know. It seems to be working for us, he was born at 4 lbs 1 ounce and is not 12 lbs in 3 1/2 months....

I only woke DD every 3 hours during the day, starting when she was 2.5-3 months old. NEVER EVER EVER at night. She used to cluster feed and it was making me crazy so I started the 3 hour thing to get her on a routine. I did it for like a month only.
