Automatic pool cover or fence
If you had the choice which would you get? They both will cost around $8k. I would love both but that wont happen. I am leaning towards the fence because I feel it is safer.
Any thoughts or insight would be helpful!
Thanks

Wow they're both THAT expensive?
Is this a law now?
Also, I'd opt for the fence.

We also have an IGP and I would opt for a fence.
The thought of having a party and no fence around the pool scares me. DH wanted to take our down and I insisted we not.
It is a false sense of security because ideally my kids should know how to swim since we have a pool, but not all kids have pools and not all kids know how to swim.

Re: Automatic pool cover or fence
keep in mind if you get the fence you are also going to need the water alarm according to the new rule
we put in a fence and the locked power cover -
it matters where your pool is - ours is very close to the house and the grill is there - i wanted to be able to grill and have my son outside with me
just think if you need to be inside that fence will you just be at the pool or will other things being going on liking grilling or eating - if yes get a power cover
also keep in mind a power cover is not a year round cover in NY - you need a winter cover because it can't handle sustained weight from snow

Also, some covers are porous, so weight in the center of the cover makes a pool in the cover. My neighbor's dogs like to do that sometimes. They'll walk out on the cover and hang out in the puddle that forms in the middle.
Also, check with your town laws. Some may enforce a fence, even if you have the best automatic cover in the world.

Yes, then the loop lock is another $5k. So I think I will just go with the estate fencing. There will be a patio and a pool house fenced in that area but unless we are at the pool we wont need to access it. We have another patio right off the house with the grill. I like the safety of the auto cover but my husband thinks its over kill.
Thanks for your input!!

My husband brought up this exact point.
