average price of milk, etc

IN DD's baby book there's a page for " cost of gas, milk, etc". I have somewhat of an idea about some of these things obviously but do you know where I can find a list of all these things?

Well, let me tell you. I cannot wait for DS to start milk. Formula is WAY more expensive than milk.

Re: average price of milk, etc

I think the price of milk is regulated by the state. . .

I read this a few weeks ago:

New Yorkers are getting milked at supermarkets, bodegas and other grocery stores, the City Council said Thursday.

A Council-commissioned survey of milk prices found that 86% of stores were charging more than is allowed under state law.

"Milk is not a luxury, milk is a necessity for a healthy diet, especially for children," said Councilman Eric Gioia (D-Queens) who chairs the investigations committee, which conducted the probe.

Of the 50 stores surveyed, 43 charged an average of 40 cents per unit above the threshold, the survey shows.

The state threshold hovers at $3.93 for a gallon of milk, $2.01 for a half gallon and $1.04 for a quart of milk, Council Speaker Christine Quinn said.

Oversight of the state regulation is "clearly not working," said Quinn, who urged New Yorkers to call the state Department of Agriculture and Markets to lodge complaints if their store is bilking them.

The state agency, which has monitored prices since the Milk Price Gouging Law went into effect in 1991, said enforcement is difficult.

"This price is only to be used as a guide for retailers. It's not the end-all," said Jessica Chittenden, a spokeswoman for the Department of Agriculture and Markets.

A store that is accused of charging too reduce it, she said. Customers can file a complaint at www.agmkt.state.ny.us or much is asked to justify the price or (800)554-4501, Chittenden said.
