babies and pet allergies
so we have a cat, and DS is 9 months old. i am fairly sure he is slightly allergic to the cat - he coughs and sneezes every day (not a whole lot, just a little) and often rubs his eyes after petting the cat or being near him.
he has no congestion or wheezing, his eyes are usually not red or teary, and he does not seem to have any other symptoms.
i personally feel that he will outgrow his allergies, because i had even worse pet allergies as a kid and i am fine now.
but should i be more paranoid? are these minor symptoms going to become worse?

Anthony does the same thing with my cats, not my dogs. I keep them away from him and wash and change when I am near them

Re: babies and pet allergies
The things you are describing are normal baby behavior. My DD sneezes at least 2 times a day, rubs her eyes and nose and makes coughing sounds. I think it's more related to teething than an allergy. Coughing, sneezing, rubbing eyes/nose are all teething symptoms.

Re: babies and pet allergies
I guess it all depends, but we just had to rehome our cat about 2 months ago bc our DS cat allergy went from barely noticable to all out severe. He was hacking and had watery eyes and his eyes would actually swell shut from the allergy. So with Ds his got more severe over time, so much so that we had to buy all new curtains, linens, pillows for the couches and beds. We had to have someone come in and professionally clean the carpets and furniture. He is finally better now. So sorry.....

my DS has different teething symptoms than what you described.

Re: babies and pet allergies
my ped told me to give children's claritin because he thinks DS might have some allergies--don't know to what yet.

Re: babies and pet allergies
I personally believe children can outgrow pet allergies just by frequent contact.
When Ryan was bit younger if he rubbed his face on our comforter (where Peanut sleeps) his skin would get very red, eyes water a bit, maybe even a sneeze.
We ignored it and now, at 11 months he shows no signs of the allergy.
So, if it were me in your shoes, I'd keep an eye out to make sure it doesn't get worse. But wouldn't give too much thought about it over all.
