Baby bath tubs...necessary?
I registered for and received an infant bath tub or whatever it is. It's the clearwater blue one with the thermometer. Anyway, I'm sitting here looking at it and I'm thinking this thing is friggan huge and where the hell am I going to put it. I hate clutter and I hate inconvenience. I'm seeing at least the clutter aspect with this thing.
Is it easier just to bathe the kid in the sink? Is this really a necessity? Will bath time be back breaking with the baby in this in the tub ? If you ladies say it is a necessity, I'll keep it and shut up about it but I'm kind of on the fence about it. Opinions?

Re: Baby bath tubs...necessary?
not BTDT of course, but for me it's necessary. I don't like the idea of having the baby in the regular tub or sink without some sort of support, a closed environment. We have a stall shower (that is ironically the size of a regular bathtub) on our first floor, and bathing a baby just wouldn't work in our kitchen sink or our bathroom pedestal sink.

Re: Baby bath tubs...necessary?
I never used the infant tub. I bathed the baby in the sink and when he was old enough, I used the bathtub.
When he was an infant, I put one hand on his back to support him and used the other to wash him.

Re: Baby bath tubs...necessary?
personally I wouldn't want to not have one. it helps in sink baths, but then it helps when you move them to the tub. I found when they went into the tub, their butts would slide around so much...having them contained felt so much better for me.

I wanted to get this so bad, but our kitchen sink is one of those deep stainless steel ones and our bathroom sink seems kinda small and shallow. We got a huge bathtub that I was less than thrilled to register for, but felt I had no other choice. I'm still on the look out for a better solution!

For me it was necessary-the baby needs support to bathe, and I wouldn't be comfortable using my arm.

For me it was necessary. The first bath I did in the sink without a tub and it wasn't fun. I was drenched, baby was screaming. No bueno. Got the tub after that and everyone was happy.

Re: Baby bath tubs...necessary?
i have the same tub. is 9w old and i havent opened the box yet. instead ive been using this Summer Infant comfort bather in the sink. It's great cause it folds flat so you can easily store it.
I will switch to the tub once DD can sit up, but until then it's harder to bathe them in the tub because you have to hold them with one hand and bathe with the other. With a seat like this one you have both hands available for bathing and don't have to worry about them slipping down into the water.

This is one thing I must say is necessary for me. I love the Primo Eurobath because he doesn't go very far and have both hands free to bathe him. Babies are like fish when they are wet... add soap, even worse.
I have this one
Yes, it's big but so, so worth the clutter.
ETA: I love the strategically place banned on the baby's parts.

Re: Baby bath tubs...necessary?
I honestly wish I had a bigger one! The one we have it just the inclined one and we had an insert for a nb which was awesome -- we actually set the whole thing up on the vanity in the bathroom right next to the sink and it works great. Now that DD is 6 months old, though, it's getting a little small and there isn't a way for her to sit up in it. Danielle's seems so much more practical, but someone gave us this one so we never got one or registered for one for ourselves.
I just keep it in the bathtub when we're not using it. I'm waiting for DD to be better at sitting up on her own to move her into the big tub (although I did get a blow-up insert for that, too).
You will get a ton of use out of it.

ITA. I loved the newborn sling insert that came with my tub. I always felt DS was secure in it.

IMO totally necessary. I too, keep it in the big tub while it's not in use.

I have this one too, been using it since 6 wks. She is almost growing out of it, and I am not sure what to get next. It's def a necessity. Maybe not a huge tub, but this one is cheap and does a good job.

I agree with it being necessary. I just used mine for the first time... and bathing her wouldn't have been possible without the infant tub!
I have the frog tub.

Re: Baby bath tubs...necessary?
I say its a must. The thought a newborn in a kitchen sink that also has things like raw chicken, etc in it just disgusted me and seemed unsanitary. Plus a young baby needs a LOT of support in the first few months.
I still use a toddler sized tub and my DD is almost 3. I like it b/c it keeps her contained, she has a place to lay back so I can rinse her hair and I dont have to fill up as much water as I would the whole tub. So yes, I am still using my tub 3 years later. But I did have a smaller infant one before this (I have the Euro now) however I think this could have been used for newborns also. The one I did have fit into the kitchen sink so at least she was elevated for a few mths anyway.

I have this one and still use at almost 3. My DD is used to it and likes it. I like that she has a place to lay back to rinse her hair and that I dont have to worry about her slipping and hitting her head. Plus I like that I dont have to fill the whole tub, just this little plastic tub.
I just keep it in my bathtub and take it out when we are going to shower.

Same here plus I ma onthe shorter side and it was just to akward for me to try and bath her in the sink. At our house she has ALWAYS been in a bathtub and for me, it's 100% a necessry item. My mom, on the other hand, is tall and has a very deep sink and has only ever bathed her in the sink since she has back problems. We had the Whale bathtub and just stored it in the shower and put it on the floor when we needed to take one. It wasn't that bad, and at 10mon we bought the inflatiable ducky bath from Target \

For the tub, yes For the sink, not really
We have the duck for our tub. Logan is about to out grow it so soon he'll probably be in the tub without anything

I HATE clutter too...buttt the thought of me dropping a slippery baby is enough for me to get over my OCD real quick.
I store the tub in the downstairs guest bathtub, which is rarely used, if ever.

Re: Baby bath tubs...necessary?
I have the tub and I LOVE it - love that it allows you to clean the water and gives you the temperature. DD likes her bath hot, so it helps to know how hot I can make it. And I hate the idea of her sitting in dirty water, so this tub is perfect for us. It is a bit bulky, but worth it.
I can't imagine bathing without a tub.
