Baby Blues?? anyone? thanks
just wondering if anyone had the baby blues after giving birth? i know it's common but i worry if these baby blues might turn into PPD. i feel mostly happy during the day but all of a sudden i will burst out crying. my baby is healthy and so good. my DH and family are supportive and helpful so i really shouldn't feel so sad at times!! i find myself kind of mourning my "old life" at times. just the freedom to take a nap or go out alone and not have to worry....has anyone had these feelings? do they go away? do you get so used to having a baby that you "forget" your old life? believe me, i love being a mom but i feel a little lost like i can't remember who i was! thanks of any experience/advice anyone can offer!

Re: Baby Blues?? anyone? thanks
what you are experiencing is totally normal....I too at times want my old life back...sleeping till 10am or later, being able to pick up and go whenever and wherever we wanted....
with my daughter I had a rough few weeks/maybe even months. I felt alone AND lonely, isolated, worthless, questioned everything about my life. I'd cry for no reason.
I'm only 2 weeks into this post partum session and I've had a few moments where I feel rotten. I often wonder how I'm going to handle 2 kids under the age of 2....I'm totally afraid of going out in public with both of them. I'm still getting the hang of breastfeeding and DS hasn't really fallen into a predictable routine yet. Once he does, then maybe I'll feel better about attempting going out alone with them.

Your not alone!
I went through the baby blues for 3 weeks, and I was so nervous of getting PPD. I think it was more of a life change shock that got to me, I couldn't come and go when I wanted to, I was responsible for another human being now, and I was her food source (BF). I feel getting out of the house as much as possible helped a lot! My mom would pick me up and we would go for drives and walks with Julia, and on the weekends my DH and I would take Julia on little trips here and there. I started feeling much better once I got on a schedule with her and when she started sleeping through the night!
That down feeling wont last forever!

I feel exactly the way you do right now. DD is almost two weeks old. I just miss my old life a bit and I feel a little trapped. Hoping I get used to my "new" life soon!

Baby blues sufferer here. You're not alone and all you're feeling is normal. It gets better, but I still have my days when it's pretty bad. I'm just giving myself time.

I've been going through the exact same thing you described since having DS on 6/20. Now, 2 weeks later, it is slowly getting a little better but I still have my moments. I spoke with my doctor and she and I are going to monitor it to make sure it doesn't get worse. She said something like up to 80% of women can experience some version of baby blues after giving birth. If you continue to feel down or if it gets worse, I would talk to your doctor.
FM me if you ever need to talk.

Re: Baby Blues?? anyone? thanks
SO normal- I had such anxiety as the night rolled around- will she sleep at all, will I be able handle all this, plus I was actually missing work since it was so organized and I knew what to do.
It does get better- the crying, the worries, the overwhelming feeling of dread at times. I was so scared that I didn't even enjoy DD the whole first month.
Hang in there

Re: Baby Blues?? anyone? thanks
Totally normal. I cried all the time during the first 3 months. I think most of my 'depression' came from sleep deprivation because my DD was colic...so I basically never slept. You should talk with your GYN, because if it is PPD...that is really serious and should and most certainly can be treated.
Most important, ask for help!!!! You can't do it all on your own.
ETA:
DD is now 8mos old and everything is great! I actually got a lot better at around the 3mos mark.

Re: Baby Blues?? anyone? thanks
thank you all for your posts! I really appreciate your sharing your experiences both past and present. i hate feeling this way when it hits me in waves. i look forward to feeling better as time goes by and i get used to my new life. it's only been 2 weeks since the birth so i know i need to give it time. i will surely monitor it, if it seems to get worse i will definitely talk to my dr.! thank you all again!
