just don't do it like my MIL who sent them out 3.5 weeks before my shower Chat Icon

i think 5-6 weeks in advance is fine, but up to two months in advance, IMO, is ideal.

yeah I'm an early planner...If no one stopped me I'd send them out now!

so mid-march would be a good time to send them out then, that's 2 months

when should the RSVP be then? End of april? mid-april?

It depends...are you doing it at a place where you have to give a head count by a certain date. I would say 2 weeks before the party should be fine.

I would send them no later than 6 weeks if not 8 weeks in advance. Normally I say 4-6 weeks but since you said it is in May and May is a VERY busy month - with Mother's day, weddings, showers, and all other sorts of parties you want to give people as much notice as possible or you might find many others have alternate plans. Depending on when in May maybe you want to send them the beginning of March. I would set the RSVP about 2 weeks prior to the party.

Normally I would agree- but My Mom had to do it like this only because she was real busy with my grandmother being in the hospital for the past month! So she had no choice- but hey it's mostly family and close friends who all know whats going on so I'm sure they will have no problem with the short notice
