Baby's Christening - 2 Godmothers.. Question
I just had my second baby on May 24th and want my younger sister to be his godmother. She's so wonderful with my niece, who is also her goddaughter. She takes her to cool places and they have a really special relationship. She is so hands-on with my nieces and my babies. My husband wants his sister to be our baby's godmother, since I chose my other sister for my older baby's godmother. Honestly, I love my sister-in-law, but she isn't very involved with my daughter.. I don't think she's ever picked her up and and my daughter is 15 months old! I want my son to have a special bond with his godmother in every way possible and I feel that my sister is a better choice.
Since I'm not going to be having any more babies, I'd like to ask both my sis and sis-in-law to be the godmothers . I know that one of them won't be official, but I thought I'd honor them both by asking them both.
What is your opinion?

Re: Baby's Christening - 2 Godmothers.. Question
I think it's a good compromise, and honestly, unless they see the official baptismal card, they won't know which is the official one.
However, I don't know if your church allows it.

Re: Baby's Christening - 2 Godmothers.. Question
Our Pastor suggested to me to invite as many as I want as Godparents; so I have 3 godmothers and 2 godfathers. I asked him why is this and he said times are changing and people come and go in our lives and each person can offer something special to our child....so DH and I thought about it and we decided on the 3godmothers/2godfathers. It works for us and it is more love for Ava !

Thank you, ladies
The church we are baptizing him at is St. Aidan's in Williston Park. I will ask the pastor there is they will allow it.
I think your church rocks, Sandra - that makes things so easy!!

Re: Baby's Christening - 2 Godmothers.. Question
I think its a wonderful idea, that said, your church may not allow both to participate in the ceremony. Our church required one of each sex "to reflect the natural order of parents" (yes, I kid you not, the priest actually said that to the group in the class we had to take, I burst out laughing - he didn't like that).

Re: Baby's Christening - 2 Godmothers.. Question
our church only allowed one Godmother and one Godfather and they were mentioned during the service so we wouldn't have been able to have both. IMO, I think you should go with your SIL, sounds like your sister would be involed either way!

Re: Baby's Christening - 2 Godmothers.. Question
I think it's a great idea. My cousin actually just did that and it was very sweet. As far as one of them not being official, my friend who will be my DD's godmother is not Catholic so therefore will not be official but that's just on paper, and it's still an honor.

Re: Baby's Christening - 2 Godmothers.. Question
Our church is very open with how many Godparents. We are having 3. 1 Godmother and 2 Godfathers. DS will be our only child and I have a brother and so does Hubby. So we picked my brother to be the Godfather and his brother to be a secondary Godfather (he has some serious medical conditions) And we picked our best friend for our Godmother.

Re: Baby's Christening - 2 Godmothers.. Question
I am co-godmother to one of my godsons and it's awesome to be so honored in his life. it doesn't bother me in the least that I "share" the honor at all. go for it.

Re: Baby's Christening - 2 Godmothers.. Question
I am pretty sure that the Catholic Church only recognizes one godmother and one godfather, but I could be wrong. I asked my uncle who is a priest and that's what he told me!

I think 2 godmothers will be fine. We most likely will have each of our sisters as godparents so 2 godmothers and no godfathers. For DS we had my brother and sis and after our other sisters, no more siblings. DH is Jewish and I am Catholic so we had a blessing ceremony for DS and technically they are not even "godparents" but that's what we call them.
The above mentioned pastor is right... times are changing.

Re: Baby's Christening - 2 Godmothers.. Question
Thank you for your vote of confidence! I think it's an honor as well. Both my sis and sis-in-law would be honored.. it's just my husband I have to worry about.

Re: Baby's Christening - 2 Godmothers.. Question
I really wanted to do this as there was no one I really wanted as a godfather and there were 2 very special woman i wanted as godmothers. But, my catholic church wouldn't allow it The priest performing the service is very old-school. I had to pick one of the women i originally wanted and her husband. This was in RVC.

I'll be curious to hear your outcome from the church... their new pastor is more old school so i ithink there is less chance of them bending the rules.

Re: Baby's Christening - 2 Godmothers.. Question
If you are having a Catholic baptism, they WILL NOT allow you to have 2 godmothers or 2 godfathers. It can only be one of each.

Re: Baby's Christening - 2 Godmothers.. Question
I think the Catholic Church will only allow one godmother and one godfather but they may allow an additional witness. I think the idea is fine but I would call your church and ask before you say anything to anyone.
