Re: Back to school for teaching?
I have a Master's in Public Health and was thinking about going back to become a Health Teacher. I just started looking into programs and unfortunately there aren't many in this subject, Hofstra has a good one but it's expensive and I'm not ready to take out student loans again. After reading the posts, I think I should make sure the market is good for health ed. I may just have to take some basic sequence courses and hopefully my previous courses will apply.

I plan on doing this soon as well.
What are the programs that let you get started after you have your undergrad and masters in a different field?

Dowling has a very good program for career changers. Dowling itself is totally unorganized, but if you stay on top of all the requirements yourself, you won't have any problem. That's how I did it, and had a job the month after I graduated.

Im sure that ANY school can accomodate those changing careers and those with different educational backgrounds. We know how money talks in this world, you'll get "sure, sure, have a seat" wherever you go. Its just a matter of making up credits.
The market is really tough right now as all have said Luckily Im 7m preggo and not looking right now, subbing works for me now. But its pretty sad to know there are so many of us that just went through all this only to stand in a crowd of thousands waving our resumes and since my Masters is only in Elem Ed, Ive really given thought to take advantage that Im fluent in both Italian and Spanish. I dont necessarily want to teach languages as a first priority, but I may use it as an extension to my elem degree.. and then I hear there are some SDs that will hire you faster simply with having fluency in languages. I dont know how much truth there is to that... Of course I wish it were very true

Re: Back to school for teaching?
Me! I have a BS in business and I am starting a Masters program on 6/20. It's an accelerated alternate route program in NJ. Right now I work in HR. HR is ok but I have been wanting to teach for a long time and so I decided to bite the bullett and go for it.

I bounced around careers. I was first in retail, in buying offices. Then switched to the computer field/project management, better hours and much better money then moved out here and had temp jobs also in I.T. and got preggo with one after the other and decided to get my degree while popping out babies... and did just so and worked p/t here and there in the meantime.

Re: Back to school for teaching?
Does anyone know of other schools that have a good evening program? I also have my BS in Business. I want to get my masters, but not an MBA. I want to go for teaching, but I need to do it part time/evening
