Bad day (a little long)
So, my job sucks....there were only two people in my company who handled one portion of the work...me and this other girl....well she moved to a different dept.... They decided not to hire anyone so I was left alone, but still had some help from my supervisor and little help from my manager. Well my supervisor quit and he position hasn't been filled yet either so now its just me and my pot head supervisor who is really a nice guy out of work but is good for nothing at work, he pushes his work on other people all the time. When the girl I was working with left he promised we'd split her accounts, little did I know it would be a 95%-5% split....guess who got the 95%....fine, its over and done with. Bonus and raise time came around and I got the same everyone else got bonus wise...fine...but my raise was pathetic...about an extra $10 a week! Barely covers the cost of living increases. Now my manager has the audacity to take a week off to sit home and do nothing while I handle 2 1/2 desks worth of work, at this point I'm pisssed but still fine...I go along with it. TODAY he takes off AGAIN after being out all of last week because it's opening day at Yankee Stadium.....no more "fine" I am f-n pizzed and don't know how much longer I can take of this. I already took two Valium this morning and still can't seem to calm my nerves....how dare he?!!?!? Am I wrong for feeling like I'm being stepped all over?

Re: Bad day (a little long)
Honestly, I would challenge your raise.
Put it in writing all of the things you have done for the company since these people left, list all of your tasks, list WHY you are an asset to this company.
Put it in writing and present it to your boss and copy his boss on it (and possibly HR as well).
The worst they are going to say is no.

ITA with ave1024 that you should put your thoughts in writing. You should not keep your feelings inside because your "raise" definitely does not take into account all your new work.

Re: Bad day (a little long)
I have been praying for rain all morning, I hope it pours on his stupid head all day at Yankee Stadium
I was thinking of talking to the president of the company (he's pretty cool), do you think I should do it in writing instead?

Re: Bad day (a little long)
I wouldn't complain about the work itself, I would just simply challenge the raise.
I would say stuff like I am very happy with the company, and I have taken on a much more difficult workload that originally was handled by 2-3 different people.
I would ask for a 5-7% raise, but I wouldn't go higher than that because most companies don't even go past 4-5%.
If your company has a written policy about raises only being a certain amount, you can ask the company to make a one time exception based on your MERITS.
The key is you have to prove your "worth" the raise. You can't ask for a raise because of inflation or because you can't pay the bills. You ask for the raise because you feel your deserve it.
Just be nice. I don't know if I would go directly to the president of the company, but I would definitely send it to a senior executive (somebody that has the authority to approve raises).
