Bad Mommy - Wonderful Child.
Noah got his end of Kindergarten video. It's basically just a movie of pictures and video clips from the various events and adventures through kindergarten. It was adorable.
They had SO many events - orientation, Family Fun Nights. Thanksgiving play, holiday party, Chinese New Year, Valentines Day, 100th day of school, St. Patrick's day, Field trip after field trip, Easter, etc.. Literally just a TON of events. It was cute and sweet..
.. and it broke my heart. Because in 90% of the events you saw a video clip or picture of Rob. He was there. And I was not. I went to 2 things this ENTIRE year. TWO. My youngest child.. my BABY just finished kindergarten and I missed soooo much of it.
Rob's been out of work and I have felt like I need to REALLY 'prove' myself and commit to work while he is staying home. So he had the flexibility to go while simply did not. But no matter what the justification is - I missed out and I will NEVER EVER get that time or those moments back.
So when the video was wrapping up. I started to well up. And I hugged Noah and I said "I'm Sorry I missed so many things!"
Do you know what my boy said to me?
He said "It's okay. I always take you with me anyway."
Have I mentioned how very much I love my kids?
ETA: I should mention that NoNo PROBABLY meant that he lets me tag along everywhere.. but of course the way he worded it made me weep and attach a sweeter subtext. But.. maybe I'm selling him short!

Thanks guys.
I guess I'm not a BAD Mommy.. but I do have the working mom guilt. With Robbie, I took the days off to be there.. but having Rob available just made it too easy for me to let him be the rep.
BUT.. the unintended GOOD effect is that my husband was watching the dvd, turns to me and smiles and says "I'm pretty awesome." I laughed and agreed. He went reluctantly to a lot of those events and I asked him if he regretted going to them all now - but his perspective has completely changed and he is so happy he got to be there.

What a sweetie pie
Please do not feel badly-many parents miss these things altogether. It was great that you could be there for some of the events and that your DH could be there for all of them.
Many times, the situation is reversed and it's the mom who is there for all of them and the DH who misses them entirely. I think it's great that your sons have a different perspective than others and see such a committed dad and a great role model for their future wives
