Bad Results from Level II -- pls help! - 2nd Update on Pg3
DH and I are devastated right now - hoping someone can set us at ease.
Had level II today and it showed some choroid plexus cyst (CPC) on the brain and curved 5th digits. Docs are sending us for an amnio, but does anyone have experience with this??
We're freaking out, but trying not to. Any help would be great.
ETA: My ultrascreen was normal at week 12.

Re: Bad Results from Level II -- pls help!
My DD (due aug 7th) had CPC's at the level II and they turned out to be NOTHING. It's just cerebral fluid that gets trapped in a pocket as the brain folds and develops. The brain folds and develops so fast the little pockets of fluid don't have time to absorb/move....I went online and did a lot of research and not 1 person whose child had this went on to have anything wrong with them based on the CPC alone... FYI: The CPC's shrank down within the 2 weeks we waited for our 2nd sono...and now, at 33 weeks, they are gone.
AS for the curved 5th digits...is that the pinky finger? Everyone on my dad's side of the family has a curved pinky finger. Granted, they are all a little crazy, but that's not related in any way

Re: Bad Results from Level II -- pls help!
I didn't have those same results at my Level II, but I did have some bad news.
When is the Amnio, I hope they can get you in right away. I know how hard it is to worry.
Many for your little baby.

I am not familiar with the curved 5th digit, but both of my children had Choroid Plexus Cysts & it turned out to be nothing for both. They disappeared in both kids by the time they rechecked at 30-something weeks.

Just wanted to offer you some hugs and prayers.
The waiting is the worst part. We had semi bad results with my Son's ultrascreen and had to wait from 12 weeks till 18 weeks for a Fetal echocardiogram and it was torture...so I hope that your waiting goes fast and I hope it is fine!

Re: Bad Results from Level II -- pls help!
First I am not familiar with the first part, but my pinky toes curl in and it has in no way shape or form had any impact on me. My great grandfather also had the same curved in pinky toes but neither my mom or my grandma have them. I did wear those black and white shoes with the hard soles as a kid until 5th grade but that was more because my mom was neurotic about these things and no doctor made me do that. I hope that helps calm your nerves a little.

I totally believe you b/c my brother and 4 of my cousins (on father's side) have the curved pinky fingers and a couple have the curved pinky toes!

Re: Bad Results from Level II -- pls help!
They are both soft markers for Down Syndrome of chromosomal anomalies. But that doesnt mean that their is anything wrong with the baby...
Choroid Plexus Cysts can be/and are found in completely normal fetuses..I forget specifically what the percentage rate is but if they find a CPC less than 1% of those babies will be born with a chromosomal anomaly...
The cause for concern is b/c your baby has 2 soft markers. Clinodactaly (the curved 5th digit) is found in something like 60% of babies with Down Syndrome....
Did the doctors say anything else about the level II? Space between the first and second toe? Short femur bone???
The thing with Down Syndrome is that all the features of Down Syndrome can be/will be found in "normal" babies. It's more when you lump them all together that you have the syndrome...
Feel free to FM me any time. I dont have all the anwers...Im not a doctor or anything...I just have a daughter with Down Syndrome...

Ditto. The statistics show that in only 1% of the cases does the Choroid Plexus Cyst have some kind of association with Trisomy or Down's - this is a VERY VERY low statistic, and considering your ultrascreen results were good, I wouldn't worry too much. In most cases the cysts go away on their own, as they did with both my pregnancies, and in fact, in both cases two separate doctors told me they think the cysts are just a normal part of fetal development, but have only gotten attention because they weren't noticeable until recently due to advances in technology

amnio is Tues but I'm afraid for what we'll find out.
Make sure the doctor puts in for a FISH result. That will get you prelimiary results in 2-3 days instead of waiting for 10 long days. I got an amnio after having a soft marker for Down Syndrome at my level 2 last year with DD. So, at 21 weeks, I had the amnio and had the results in 3 days. Again, they are not the complete results but it did help me from going crazy and then I received the full results after 10 days. All the best to you for Tuesday. Keep us updated!!
