Balanced Billing for LIPA.........
LIPA - Balanced Billing Status
Balanced Billing Status (After payment of this bill) Start: November Months Remaining: 09 Usage To Date $ 352.70 Billed To Date 990.00 Balance in Your Favor $ 637.30
Balanced Billing for January $ 330.00
This is how my bill reads.
I have paid 3 times on this balanced billing cycle.
Am I reading correctly that if I paid per month & not on balanced billing I would have only paid $117.56 ($352.70 divided by 3 months)?
I am trying to decided if we should stay on this balanced billing JUST FOR NOW. My inlaws moved out a few months ago. That was 3 people home ALL DAY LONG with EVERYTHING on!!!! I am really thinking if I came off this for a while, our usage is SO much lower, that it would be adjusted down to a normal rate.
Do I make sense? This bill is just insane for a house of 2 when we are out ALL day for 9-10 hours at the same time!!! (plus we still live in our basement apartment, so the rest of the house is not being used till we renovate it)

Re: Balanced Billing for LIPA.........
This is why I do't do balanced billing. I pay for exactly what I've used and the bill comes every 2 months. I'd rather not let LIPA hold on to my money while they adjust the billing. I know that in the summer when the AC is on 24/7, the bill is going to be like 2x's what it usually is, so I just plan ahead for that.

Re: Balanced Billing for LIPA.........
I just opened up an account with them and they suggested I do not do balanced billing b/c the estimates would be on the prior owner's use. They told me to pay for what I use for 6 mos and then if I want to go on balanced billing they'll have an idea of our usage.

Re: Balanced Billing for LIPA.........
since you just had a big change in the HH, you should go off BB. Wait 6 months to a year with your normal activity and than go back on again.

Re: Balanced Billing for LIPA.........
I requested to be taken off of it.
The $352.70 was what I woul dhave paid for the 2 month period of Oct. - Dec.
That seems way more reasonable then me paying $330 A MONTH!
I will stay off for 6 months & reevaluate after the summer is over..
Thanks!

Re: Balanced Billing for LIPA.........
I have done balanced billing for 12 years now and love it. My bill went down from $91/month to $89/month and they keep "owing" us money.

Re: Balanced Billing for LIPA.........
While I love the idea of balanced billing too.....makes my budgeting so much easier........the bill would take forever to adjust down to what we should be be paying!!
I looked at last years January bill. Our actual usage was $610.
This Januarys bill, our actual usage is $352.
With the drastic change in the household (my 3 inlaws moved out) DH & I use SO much less!! It take FOREVER to adjust to what it should be!!

Our bill has changed every two or three months. Balanced for a few months is what they should call it. ITA. i have had several issue with LIPA and have resorted to even reading my own meter as that was incorrect as well......

Um...my LIPA bill was $150 this month for a three bedroom colonial...something doesn't sound right with the balanced billing.

Re: Balanced Billing for LIPA.........
I hate balance billing. For the past 2 yrs they have been so off. This yr in January we recvd a year end bill and ended up owing LIPA over $250 on top of our monthly bill of $240 And it is due upon receipt I am so angry. I might just go month to month and see what happens.

Re: Balanced Billing for LIPA.........
I used to work there.
You should wait 1 year before going on balanced billing. The estimates can only be done on the previous 12 months usage, so you are paying based on what the previous occupants usage was for that year. I would wait the year. Especially if you are going to add new appliances, they will be using less electric as well, and should lower your usage even more.
