Balanced Billing HELP!
I am about to lose my mind. I opened up my LIPA bill and it says that we owe 5900.00. How could that be possible??? We moved in last July and I think in Septemeber of 2007 we went on balanced billing and it was 130.00 a month. This months bill says that they underestimated our usage (they came to read the meters about 3 weeks ago) for the past year and now they are raising balanced billing to 530.00 a month and we need to pay them back. We have a 1600 square foot split. Please help. Does anyone have experience with this.
Also, can you please tell me how much your monthly balanced bills are.

WOW! I have a 6 bedroom house and I pay $316 with bb and usually have a really low payment at the end. I can't believe that they would low-ball you with that $130 bill. That is like what apartment people pay.
I would ask them to send someone out to your house to give you energy saving tips, they may be able to find something amiss, like a broken meter. Don't take this lying down, it seems really high to me, but your $130 seemed really low.

Okay, I just did a little math: unless you leave the ac on all day with the windows and doors wide open, something is def wrong.
Over the past year you have paid them $1560. I have paid them $3792. Mind you I have 3 kids and CAC.
Even if you subtract what you paid from what I paid: you should only owe $2232. Half of what they are saying.

Give them a call, but before you do, go out and get the numbers off your meter. Someone may have transposed some numbers when they last read the meter. We have about 2300 square feet and while we don't have balanced billing we rarely pay over $120 a month. We don't have AC but even if we did I can't see how it would be nearly what you're paying.

Wow, something is OFF... I have window AC, a pool pump, 3 kids and hubby who leave every light on and my BB LIPA bill is $109 a month!
I have oil heat and gas hot water.
My mom on the other hand has electric eveything (except stove and hot water which is solar) and her BB with LIPA is $350 a month.

I have a high ranch 2 kids, I work from home. I have 3 window a/c units running all the time and my BB is $179 a month. Something must be wrong!
I have gas heat & stove.
