Bank of America free checking account...now charging me??
I opened a Bank of America MyAccess checking account last year, it was a free checking account meaning no monthly fees or anything and has been until today when i got a letter saying starting in June i will start to get a $12 monthly fee unless i keep $1,500 in it at all time which im a SAHM so that won't happen, can they do they when i was told it was a free checking account? They never said anything about that changing after a certain period of time...

A lot of banks do this. It's a sign of the times if you ask me. There are plenty of banks that won't charge you (or have a low minimum balance requirement) so shop around.
We have TD but you have to keep at least $100.00 in checking at all times for them not to charge you.
Also check out that bank affiliated with Stop & Shop. I think it's Citizens. They stalk me to open a checking account whenever I go there so maybe they have good perks.

I would see what options for other accounts they have. You can switch to one of those. Mine is free with direct deposit.

I know some banks are doing this- Bank of America is one of them DH and I have an account with them and we're going to be closing that out soon enough because of the fees- $25 a month unless you have a certain balance (or combined balances)...imo I never liked Bank of America.

Chase just started something similar. You are charged $12/mo. If you keep less than $1k a month In your account.

I think the exception w/ BofA & Chase is if you have direct deposit to it; the fees are waived.
Check out TD too.

i haven't had any fees charged with my BOA MyAccess Checking. I've had the account since 1997.
