Bank Transfer Day - November 5 (with poll)
I'm interested to see how/if this will affect the banks.
Here's an article that explains it.
And here's the Facebook page.

While I understand the frustration with the banks, this will not help the situation. If there is a run on the banks, they will have to turn to the Fed for loans to help pay out all the FDIC money, thus creating a need for more bank bailouts.

Re: Bank Transfer Day - November 5 (with poll)
We've been thinking about it for awhile because I can not stand our bank BUT I'm not going to do it on any specific day.

I definitely don't think it will help. In fact, I think if a lot of people do pull out of banks, we'll see a lot of bank employees (mainly tellers) being laid off.

Re: Bank Transfer Day - November 5 (with poll)
I was already closing my TD account and opening 2 accounts with BFCU, but I'm not doing it to make a statement...I had decided to do so, and it will be easy to do with my new job.

Re: Bank Transfer Day - November 5 (with poll)
I already have money in the city worker's CU (and IMO they are incompetent- but my dealings with them are limited) and then we use a small local bank. I have been very happy with them and like that they are part of the community.

Exactly. Not to mention higher fees for those that are staying to compensate for the loss of customers.
I have an account at Chase and I won't be changing it. I have no problem with my accounts and I keep the minimum balances in the accounts to avoid the fees.
If it benefits me, then I would consider changing in the future. But I won't do it to make any type of statement that might hurt the rest of us in the long run.

Re: Bank Transfer Day - November 5 (with poll)
I chose other. We were planning on switching to a credit union when we got the letter from Citibank. I am a per diem sub struggling to find a full-time job in ANY field, so every penny counts. We cannot afford $15 a month for our checking account, which is a shame because their customer service has been great. So we will be switching, but not on any specific day.

IMHO this is about as stupid a thing someone could come up with as stupid gets.
For many reasons already outlined above.
(NOT saying the OP is stupid or THIS topic, just the concept)

See, I agree with you. Although, I do think that a credit union would be a better banking choice for many, I'm not too sure that everyone closing their bank accounts will help. I already belong to a credit union (infact I work for one) so I don't have to make that decision.

This is a capitalist society so vote with your $$. If you are not happy with your bank, find a new one.

Re: Bank Transfer Day - November 5 (with poll)
We are in the process of changing to Navy Federal Credit Union, not doing it on any particular day to make a statement. There are better benefits to the NFCU and will not be any fees like with BOA.

Okay, I didn't know about this, but close my account on Friday. I will be going to a credit union just to avoid the fees that were recently imposed.

Me too - although we do have an account at a credit union - we're not moving our main accounts from banks.
