Baptism Donation?
DS is being baptized this weekend. My mom called me today and said that I should donate money to the church.
How much have you ladies donated? The priest who is baptising him is a friend of the family and has done everything for us from my first holy communion to our wedding. What do you think?

Re: Baptism Donation?
I think we gave $25. my church was strict with getting the god parents ok'd that i was ****** about the whole situation. between the $$ my brother and SIL donated to their churches to get their letter of "approval" from their parishes and the $$ we donated at masses..I figured $25 was enough.

I'm ready to flip right now.....my church wants $450 if you're a member and $600 for non-members. WT H? I clicked on this thread to see what the going rate was at other churches. I am so disgusted. I feel like printing this up and showing it to them

Re: Baptism Donation?
Our church has no suggested donation.
We donated $250 to the church with our last DD since we love our church and priest and they have done sooo much for us. (we could afford it at the time)
With our upcoming DD's baptism we are only donating $50 since that is all we can afford right now.
Afterall it is a donation and as i was told there is no suggested amount and you give what you can or can't, it's a personal choice.

That's ridiculous. Our church did not have a suggested donation and only mentioned a donation very briefly in passing. I believe we gave $75.

Dude I am right there with you - I made the mistake of clicking on this thread.
When I got the paper that said $600 I was like What can you do? It's expensive to be Armenian
The diffference is (I think) that most of these girls probably go to Catholic churches. If you have ever been to a Catholic christening there are a ton of babies that get done all at the same time so they are getting the same if not more. For us, it is one family at a time. If you want we can share a day and go halvsies We booked Oct. 9th.

our church is a catholic church in manhattan. they do not get many baptisms at all (the pastor said many members choose to get their children baptized at their parents' churches) so the church did one just for us on the date we wanted. there was no suggested donation and no request for one actually - a first for me in my experience with churches. as a result, dh and i wanted to be generous and gave $500 - we felt like they were being really accommodating and didn't want anything in return and we appreciated that.

My DD was baptised in a Catholic Church in a private ceremony. I gave a $100 donation. We also had to make the arrangements ourselves with the deacon who perfomed the ceremony so we gave him $50 in a thank you card.

Re: Baptism Donation?
Don't know if I should have included that this priest didn't make us do any classes or ask from anything from the Godparents. Like I said, he is a family friend. I'm thinking I will go with $100.
Thanks ladies!
