Baptism/Godparent question...
Does anyone know how an adult would go about making their Confirmation so they can be a Godparent??? I'm asking because I wanted my sister to be the Godparent to Caiden, but she didn't make her Confirmation. Now I would like for her to be the Godparent to this baby, but she still needs to make her Confirmation. Does anyone know the process of getting confirmed? How long it takes, etc.? She was suppose to have this done by now, but of course...
She lives in Orlando FL so local churches wouldn't help, but I just wanted to know the procedure. Thanks!

Re: Baptism/Godparent question...
You must speak to the Church where the baby will be Baptized. Some churches only require that one of the godparents be confirmed, while some require that both do. It would also depend on the Church as to whether they would allow someone in the process of being confirmed to be a godparent. A person should not get confirmed just so they can be a godparent. They have to want to be confirmed because they believe in the religion. They have to take classes and discuss their reasons with a priest. If your sister wants to be confirmed she should call her local church to arrange it.

My brother will be our baby's godfather and he's not confirmed. but I called and the church simply requires that one of the Godparents be catholic. They didn't say they had to have made all of the sacraments.

Def call the church. My church where we are baptizing Gianna requires only one godparent to have been baptized/communion/confirmation, the other godparent only has to be baptized.

Our church as well - they gave us a sheet of requirements like this for the godparents ...... but just met with us and never did any background check whether or not my daughter's godparents are confirmed/baptized. My sister and BIL are - but the fact that they didn't even ask or check really got me upset! I mean - why bother giving us the requirements if your not going to check on them.

That's silly! Why bother is right! Our church gave us a requirement list too, but they made us submit sponsor certificates from the godparents saying they are members of a church and have taken sacraments.

Re: Baptism/Godparent question...
At our church only one of the godparents need to be confirmed and catholic. The father that I spoke with about it on the phone said it is no problem that my BIL is a different religion, nor that my husband is. So check with your church, it might not be necessary.

I think the Church expects that you will not lie about your child's godparents so they don't do a check. At my friend's parish they had to submit both godparent's church records and verified them prior to baptism though.

Re: Baptism/Godparent question...
A lot strictly depends on where you live. Between here and LI, is a HUGE difference.
My SIL was just enrolled in confirmation classes and being confirmed. If you want, I may be able to help you find something. Any RC church should point you in the correct direction. Most point you to the head church and overseeing church to see what adult classes lie in your area. I researched online. My SIL is proud to finish her sacraments (for the time being) and able to move on with her life. Since I helped her find her info, she asked me to be her sponsor for her actual confirmation. I was honored.
Whether a church checks or not, it's up to you to pick the person most likely to guide in faith and in life decisions.
