Barking All Night !!!!

We just got a puppy, she is 5 1/2 months old. The first 2 nights she slept great but last night she barked literally ALL NIGHT !!!!! Do you have any suggestions to get her to sleep and not bark all night?

1. where is she sleeping? Is she alone or with you?

2. what is she sleeping in - a bed or a crate?

The best thing for her would be to be sleeping in your room. Dogs like to feel like they are part of the pack, if she is in a separate room, she is separated from the pack.

Re: Barking All Night !!!!

no advice, as we are still dealing with the night time stuff with Marty. He's almost 14 weeks old. It has gotten better but he still whines, cries, etc at night.

Here are some tips I have received:

Cover crate, turn on night light, raise crate so dog can see you.

Re: Barking All Night !!!!

My Mom breeds Bernese Mt. Dogs so I have grown up in a house with dogs all my life. Any puppy she has ever had was always crate trained and they slept in the family room. Now when I moved out got married, we had gotten a puppy and I was kind of feeling what do I do as I have never had one dog. So I did what my Mom always did, he was in his crate and downstairs. For the first few nights he barked and cried and I would yell knock it off every so often but he stopped. I didn't want to bring him up in my bedroom for two reasons 1. I didn't want him getting used to sleeping in my room (carpet) 2. Since he was a puppy it was inevitable that he would make a mess in his crate overnight, so with that said I didn't want the mess getting on the walls or carpert regardless of putting a towel do.

Just be strong, your puppy will be ok

Did you try taking her for a walk/playing outside before bed? She might not be tired when she's put to bed.

I don't agree with your statement that putting the puppy in his crate overnight he will inevitably make a mess. We housebroke our dogs using the crate in our bedroom and never once, did any of them relieve themselves in their crate.

Dogs only do this if they have too much room, if you have a puppy and a larger crate for them to grow into, you have to block it and make it a smaller space so they can't go on their bed in the crate.

Dogs don't only do this if they have too much room. My puppy has exactly the right amount of room in his crate, and he crapped in there for days from anxiety. You are countering her generalization with another.

I'll clarify my statement - what I wrote was MY OWN EXPERIENCE.

I should have been more specific, we did have the divider in the crate and the puppy still had accidents.
