BC and moms with clotting issues
I just had my 6w PP visit with my OB and we discussed BC. To my surprise, I was told that I can opt for BC or BCP with progesterone (not estrogen)... i was under the impression that with clotting disorders, you arent supposed to take anything hormonal?
Just curious how others have been counseled and what you all do?
I am considering Mirena now that I have been told its an option?

I was told the same thing (to my surprise) at my 6 week PP appt.
Since I ended up in intensive care a few years ago with pulmonary embolisms and had to have a greenfield filter put in, I'm not taking any chances. No BCP for me.

Oh yes-no problems since, but I still won't risk it even though my OB assures me it would be fine.

Re: BC and moms with clotting issues
Can you get a 2nd opinion from a hematologist? I had blood clots on the placenta when DS was born. I was tested for clotting disorders a few weeks later and can up positive on 2 types of disorders. The hematologist felt that the chances of having both of those 2 clotting disorders together is so slim, so he retested me and I keep coming up negative for all clotting disorders now. Now, in spite of having had those clots, the OB and the hematologist do not feel that I have an increased risk if I want to take BP and I am not restricted to progesterone only pills. HOWEVER, I would probably not take the chance if the form of clot that I had was something like a pulmonary embolism . I was very lucky that only problem caused by the clots on the placenta was a very small baby.
