BC if you conceived with IVF?
are you using any form of birth control now??
I have PCOS and conceived with IVF.. I am nursing and have no idea what my cycle will be like now. I was very irregular after coming off BCP to TTC #1. I haven't had a PP AF yet.
DH and I have been doing PNP but to be honest we really aren't good at the pulling part . We tried condoms but we just can't. I refuse to go back on any hormonal BCPs and DH agrees. So I was thinking of the paragard IUD. I know some say they have heavy AF on it, but I feel like I don't get AF regularly anyway so I'm not totally worried. Another part of me doesn't want to bother since if I got pregnant on my own it would be a miracle.
I had an extremely rough birth with DD and DH is def scared of having more kids for a while and my body def needs a break. Optimally we would like #1 and #2 to be about two or three years apart. We have 8 frosties from IVF so we would use them and do FET if we had to. DH asked tonight if we would go right to the FET when we are ready for #2. I said I would love to figure out my what my cycles will be like and try to wing it for a bit naturally. He jokingly said we better start trying now (took 18 months to conceive #1).
So I'm torn... What has everyone else done for birth control if you had issues conceiving to begin with??

Re: BC if you conceived with IVF?
After my first DS who was conceived via IVF, I did not go on bcp bc we figured it took ivf to get pregnant & why go back to bcp. Well, I got pregnant DS#2 at 3 months pp. Needless to say, I'm back on hormonal bcp until i tie my tubes.

Re: BC if you conceived with IVF?
I have mild PCOS and conceived with IVF. I'm having the Mirena IUD installed in 2 weeks. I don't believe that an IUD (with or without hormones) has an effect on when/if you get AF. So if you want to see how your cycles are after pregnancy, you can with an IUD.

Re: BC if you conceived with IVF?
I used Clomid and and did IUI to get pregnant. My cycles were never normal, I would easily go 45-60 in between periods. Since I had them though my cycles have been regular so I really dont want to go back on the pill because it seems like my body may have kicked itself into gear after being pregnant. We're just like you, PNP but not always good at the pulling part I think we may resort to condoms soon but they havent worked out well in the past so IDK.

Re: BC if you conceived with IVF?
Took me over 2 years (with IVF as an end-method) to conceive #1.
Got preggo super fast naturally with #2 (I was not going to use BC either). They will be 17 months apart (and that was with a period of no period for 5 months due to BFing).
My advice: use something if you are sure you don't want a BFP right away.

Re: BC if you conceived with IVF?
I know of 2 women from DD1's birth board (all born Dec 07-Feb 08) who had IVF and fertility treatments to get their DC1. Both had a second baby within 18 months, one actually just had her 3rd. Neither had any type of treatments after DC1. On the flip side, one of our moms had DC1 with no problems and has had to have treatments for DC2.

Re: BC if you conceived with IVF?
I had IUIs with femara/follistim to conceive the twins. My cycles were long (60 days or so). I can not go back on BC due to clotting issues.
I am thinking about paragard or mirena but something is holding me back...haven't figured out what it is though? trying to do some research
We CANNOT have another DC anytime soon so I have to do something.

The hormone in Mirena thickens your cervical mucus making it harder for sperm to get through. Also it thins out your lining. I did a lot of research, I was on fertility meds for 2 years and BCP for 10+ years before that, I'm over hormones for sure! But DH won't get snipped, condoms are the worst, and I'm not doing BCP ever again. Paraguard seemed to have more side effects/risks so I decided on Mirena. From the web:
Most IUCD's make a woman's periods heavier, but the Mirena makes periods lighter than usual. Because of this, it is frequently used as a treatment for heavy periods, even in women who don't need contraception. As can be seen in the picture, it is made of a light, plastic, T-shaped frame with the stem of the 'T' a bit thicker than the rest. This stem contains a tiny storage system of a hormone called Levonorgestrel. This hormone is also used in contraceptive pills such as Eugynon, Logynon, Microgynon, Ovran 30, Ovranette and Trinordial. In the Mirena, however, a much lower dose is released than when you take the Pill (about 1/7th strength), and it goes directly to the lining of the womb, rather than through the blood stream where it may lead to the common progesterone-type side effects (see below).
Basically - there isn't enough progesterone in it to have any effect on the rest of your body or your cycles.
