Beaten to death topic! Camel crickets!
They're in my basement and now on my MAIN floor.
Go trolloping into the kitchen - who's waiting for me on the kitchen mat in front of my sink? The camel cricket.
Watching shows with DH in the LR - who's slinking across the floor? The camel cricket.
Come into my front door - who's waiting for me by the stairs? The camel cricket.
I SO don't want to do the sticky traps in my LIVING ROOM!!!!!
But that's the best way right? And leave the dead guys so the cannibals come?
Blech! Ugh! Disgusting! Gross! Yuck! M*%*&^F#(KERS.

Yep, found one in my main bathroom the other day! I nearly died, I took my shoe off and threw it down on him. Missed the first time, but got him the second time.
My DH has foam sealed every single crack in the house, we have no idea how they get in. I skeeve them!

Re: Beaten to death topic! Camel crickets!
We have them in our basement, but I found one on my upper level one day and nearly died. My assumption is it probably got into the laundry
DH uses a BB gun to attack them.....I just go for whatever shoe I'm wearing

Re: Beaten to death topic! Camel crickets!
i'm so glad i'm not alone... i see one every now and again in the downstairs of my house (i have a high ranch) and they skeeeeeeve me. i cannot bring myself to touch one, even with a shoe. i get the dyson out and suck it up with the tube. i was just rearranging my garage and sucked up about 7 of them. i guess i cannot keep them from getting into the garage, but when one skips by into the house, i want to die. is there anything i can put down in my garage to end this? we have small dogs though so nothing harmful to them...

Re: Beaten to death topic! Camel crickets!
I hate these things! We have had quite a few in our family room since it's ground level.
One night I was brushing my teeth in my upstairs bathroom and felt like I was being watched. Shift my eyes to the right and there is a huge cricket hanging out on my counter watching me brush my teeth We were almost at eye level, I screamed and threw myself down the stairs screaming for dh.
He yelled at me for not killing it , then saw the size of it lol dh said he felt bad having to kill it because the thing looked like "oh $hit"
I have been debating Calling an exterminator

Re: Beaten to death topic! Camel crickets!
This is the first year I've been seeing them in my basement. The other day, I went to do laundry and I turned on the water and added the soap without looking into the machine. Well all of a sudden a camel cricket that must have been hanging out in the machine starts jumping up and down. It was jumping so high it almost could have made it out of the machine, but not quite. I didn't know what to do since the water was already pouring into the machine and the soap was starting to make bubbles. I certainly wasn't going to try to scoop it out just to have it jump at me and them jump away! So I just waited. The freaking thing actually SWAM around for a few minutes! They're even scarier looking when they swim! I think its the detergent that probably finally killed it. Then I had the lovely job of digging through the soap bubbles to scoop it out of the water with my kitty litter scooper. I dropped it back into the water the first time because I thought I saw it moving. When I told DH about this later in the day, he was just like "why did you just let it die? you should have tried to save it!"

Re: Beaten to death topic! Camel crickets!
We just moved to a new place and they are here!!!! So bad. They are coming in from the garage mainly and I am sure they are coming in on us when we are outside... EWWWWW.... So far I have killed 6 of them. And the rest of the family have killed a few... I am so grossed out and have had 2 panic attacks because of them.. I bought sticky traps but someone misplaced them. I just bought more and I am waiting for someone to go into the garage and put them down. They do work. 3 are going in the garage. 1 in the kitchen under the microwave stand. 1 in the living room and 1 in my brothers room on the main floor... They love cool damp places... Basements and garages are their faves... I heard that when hurricane Irene blew in, it stirred up a lot more bugs!!!! Does anyone know when they go away?

Re: Beaten to death topic! Camel crickets!
They ARE VERY BAD this year due to the high snow and rain we had all of last year.
I had them come back to my house as well (see other posts lol).
I sprayed the eff out of my foundation with ortho home defense and so far, so good.
I also orderd these pellets online to put around the foundation outside. I am waiting for my landscaper to come clean for fall and will then put them down as well.
I tried to not spray, etc but it was getting nuts. Once I sprayed the foundation it calmed things down a lot.
other things I always do: have glue traps all over basement, run the dehumidifier all the time, keep basement bright and very neat....also I NEVER leave laundry down there...I bring it down to wash and dry and then take it right up so they do not risk getting into my living quarters
to kill them I spray them with ant spray or any spray I have, that drags them down, then I hit them with a fly squatter
I called arrow and they want $450 to come spray but I heard it works well...that may be where I am heading if the things I am doing dont continue to work

Re: Beaten to death topic! Camel crickets!
My parents used to have those but their new cat seems to be the best exterminator. My dad used to bomb the basement with some insect can thingy Those things are the worst

Re: Beaten to death topic! Camel crickets!
I keep finding just their legs in the main level bathroom. I guess that's all that's left after they are eaten by the others . I have noticed that the ones still alive are slow now, they don't move as fast as they were. Hopefully, they will all be gone soon!

That's what I've heard.
I'm going to try the spray and pellets around the foundation like a PP suggested...

There IS one good thing about them.

Re: Beaten to death topic! Camel crickets!
Best weapon of choice...swiffer broom thingy. You can swat them from far away so they cant jump on you. I put a paper towel on instead of a swiffer cloth and SPLAT them. Works every time b/c they cant see the swiffer coming so they dont jump! HAHAA

Re: Beaten to death topic! Camel crickets!
OMG! I just got into a 20 minute battle with one. I was crying and screaming and cursing. It was on the wall! stareing at me! I had to find something to throw at it from a distance. then it took 2 magazines and one phone book to finally kill it. I get so grossed out. i hate going into the basement. They jump so high and they don't die easily. I swear I am going to see the phone book walk away one day. Do the glue traps work? I have a toddler and a dog so I rather not use chemicals.
