Holy ISH! I never had them until recently--only in the garage right now but man oh man, I turned on the light the other night in the garage and it jumped across the garage and i screamed my head off!

If it makes you feel better, I was touring the Rockefeller property upstate a few weeks ago and I saw them in the house and on the grounds.

So even the Rockefellers have em! Chat Icon

O...M...G...

When DH and I used to rent a basement apartment in East Meadow years ago, these things were ALLLL over at this time of the year. It was so gross...our door opened into the basement stairwell, and I just remember sitting on the couch at night and hearing a "ffft" noise. Sure enough, they'd be squeezing in under the door Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Do you know that I once SKIPPED my grad class at night because there were 2 camel crickets in front of the door? The ONLY way out of the apartment? I skipped class and hid in the bedroom until DH came home!

But the worst...the ABSOLUTE worst (and I thank GOD this happened to DH and not to me...)...the showerhead in our bathroom had a piece of cracked tile around it, so there was a teeny, tiny little gap. Well one day, I was showering and I saw camel cricket legs on the wall of the shower. I was like Chat Icon...but then later when I asked DH about it, he was like "Oh man...I thought I got all of it...it was squeezing through the gap in the tile while I was showering" Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

OMG I googled these and shivered Chat Icon

We don't have them that I know of in New Jersey BUT we do have stink bugs everywhere. All year round. I never heard of them til I moved here. They appear out of nowhere and you can't step on them because they STINK! You just have to capture them and flush them, that's what I do. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Beaten to death topic! Camel crickets!

I've done some research and i read that these things start coming upstairs to the main level of your house only after your basement is pretty infested with them. I also read its important to get them fast because they will reproduce. I've actually found a couple of small/baby(??) crickets in my basement.

One was in the sink in my laundry room, they are forever in the hallway in the basement and by the back door. I bought sticky traps (as much as i hate them) and caught a bunch of them.

I'd rather have MICE!! at least they wont jump AT me!! Chat Icon

Oh girl... they're in NJ. Sooo gross! I remember them at our house on LI. Nasty things! We moved to NJ and hoping they wouldn't be here, but they are. We have a big, finished basement and started finding them.

***BEST WAY TO KILL THEM*** bomb the house. You get the stuff at a Home Depot or something. Do it on a day you won't be home all day and it's nice out so you can leave the windows open. Totally worked!

They love moisture that's why they're mostly in basements or garages. Worst part is when they find they're way into the kitchen or bathrooms through the pipes Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
