Re: Beef Stew Recipe
I made this in the slow cooker a couple weeks ago and DH LOVED it!
Beef stew:
1 pkg of the pre-cubed beef in store 2 carrots, cut to small pieces 1 celery stalk chopped 1 large onion chopped 2-3 cloves garlic couple splashes of wortershire sauce black pepper salt can of beef broth 5 potatoes cut up into cubes flour spash of red wine (optional) frozen peas
drop the beef in the slow cooker and sprinkle generously with flour and move around to coat, this will help thicken sauce. add everything else in, turn it on!He wanted peas, i added them 15 minutes before serving!
I cooked it all day on low... never made stew before, DH LOVED it!

Re: Beef Stew Recipe
I always just made up my own as I went along but the last time I used this recipe:
Ingredients
* 2 pounds stew beef * 2 tablespoons vegetable oil * 2 cups water * 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce * 1 clove garlic, peeled * 1 or 2 bay leaves * 1 medium onion, sliced * 1 teaspoon salt * 1 teaspoon sugar * 1/2 teaspoon pepper * 1/2 teaspoon paprika * Dash ground allspice or ground cloves * 3 large carrots, sliced * 3 ribs celery, chopped * 2 tablespoons cornstarch
Directions
Brown meat in hot oil. Add water, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, bay leaves, onion, salt, sugar, pepper, paprika, and allspice. Cover and simmer 1 1/2 hours. Remove bay leaves and garlic clove. Add carrots and celery. Cover and cook 30 to 40 minutes longer. To thicken gravy, remove 2 cups hot liquid. Using a separate bowl, combine 1/4 cup water and cornstarch until smooth. Mix with a little hot liquid and return mixture to pot. Stir and cook until bubbly.
It was really good. But honestly, flour and brown the beef, add the onion and garlic, add the water, cook for an hour and change, add potatoes, carrots, etc. Cook for a little longer.
ETA: I added potatoes to the recipe. I'm married to an Irishman, I had to.
