Being Excessed and L/R Question
I was excessed from my school in June 09.
The other business teacher will be out for about 5-6 weeks in March for a surgery.
Does anyone know if they have to offer me the leave position first? I know they have to hire me back if a position opens up in the "business" department within the next 7 years, but I wasn't sure how they handle leaves and if I am entitled to or not.

Re: Being Excessed and L/R Question
in my district, such a policy only applies if you were tenured at the time you were excessed.

Re: Being Excessed and L/R Question
In my district, LR only have to be offered to people on the PEL list if they are for a half year or longer. HTH.

What does PEL stand for?
And do you mean if the LR is a half year or longer?

Re: Being Excessed and L/R Question
PEL is preferred eligibility list. Its a list of excessed teachers by tenure area. So on my PEL list there are 7 excessed teachers, basically like a recall list. The district offers full semester leaves (sept-feb and feb-june) to these teachers first, but anything less than a half year is open to whoever, though I would imagine if you have the certification it would be offered to you. HTH!

Re: Being Excessed and L/R Question
In my district we have PEL list and if a leave opens in your area they call based on senority. If the first person declines, it goes to the next person and so on. Doesnt matter how they were in the district.

Re: Being Excessed and L/R Question
In my district you DO NOT need to be tenured to be put on the list of call backs. They should call you in anything in your certification opens up.
