Re: Being "put to work" at your family or friend's house
we have kind of the opposite problem. ILs live about 5 hours away, and we bought their house from them when they moved. SOOO whenever they come to "visit", all they want to do is help us with house projects!! we get "oh, we used to do this every couple months" or "oh i used to clean this with this"... i know it sounds horrible to complain about them being helpful, and we really are so thankful-- but its ANNOYING!! we don't see them that often, and when we do its like a "high pressure, lets get all this work done" type thing. they can't just sit and hang out with us, watch TV, go to a park or something... its always about getting stuff done and working. the only time we had a really nice visit with them was when we all down in NC for a family wedding.... we weren't anywhere near their house or ours, so all we could do was fun, relaxing type stuff.

This happens to Dh ALL the time. He's a contractor so people always want things fixed, advice, etc. But noone is around when we need help!

My father does it all the time. He actually prepares a list in advance before my brother comes up from GA.

This has actually never happened to me! I guess my friends don't find me all that useful!
