We are thinking of just having a big bbq in our backyard so everyone could come by at one time rather than having a constant flow of visitors. We are thinking maybe 2 or 3 weeks after the baby comes. Did anyone else do something similar?

I really like this idea. I had though about doing this last year before I had DS. It didn't quite work out for me but if you think that you will be up to it - go for it.
I would just let people know what you are planning because I would imagine that some friends and family members don't want to wait a few weeks to see the baby.
Good luck!

Being that Ethan came home in January, a BBQ wasn't possible lol. We did have a few close friends & family members over the day he came home for mini super bowl party, and it was a big mistake. I was so tired and all I wanted to do was sleep, but I couldn't. The baby was up that entire night, so I got NO sleep.

So I wish I would have waited a few weeks. 4 weeks should be okay. I started taking Ethan out at 4 weeks.

One thing...be careful with sick people. With swine flu and all going around, you can never be too careful. Make sure people wash their hands before they hold Reilly.

Side note...I hope he makes his appearance soon!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I didn't, but I was fortunate that my BIL's 50th birthday party was 10 days after the baby was born, so we went & saw many family & friends.

Not right away, but at 6 weeks we traveled back to NY and had a big BBQ at my moms to introduce her to everyone.

We did it when DS was born for our friends. He was about 3 weeks old It was great to get everyone together to meet him.

I will say that it was HARD to host something with a newborn, but I also had an 18 month old DD. I was very hormonal, exhausted and DH was busy cooking etc and I was beside myself trying to care for both kids at the same time. Definitely doable with 1 DC or people that an help!!!

We had a Bris for our sons, which takes place (typically) a week after the boy is born.
Since DS2 was in the NICU, we had the bris 2 weeks after he was born. It wasn't a BBQ, but it was a party for everyone to meet him!

We did...about 4 weeks after DS was born! But, people still came within those 4 weeks!

No, but DS is born in December so no BBQ! But it sounds like a great idea if you are up to it.

I was not up to company for at least a month, though we did have both our parents and my sister over.
